When is best guess for next map update?

Wasn't there this morning. Had to download the software into a new computer and I thought it had been a long time since the last update. I must have caught that update right when it came out.

If Garmin expects to stay in the GPS business, they need to up their game, and start keeping maps more up to date, and traffic data more real-time. My new car has android auto, that presents google maps with real-time traffic on the car's main display. We used it together with our Garmin Nuvi 3597 when we evacuated SW Florida for hurricane Irma. Google maps was more accurate with traffic data, and better at suggesting alternate routes around heavily congested areas.

What traffic data is your Garmin using? Mine has digital traffic and at least here in Europe it's amazingly accurate.

In about 10 years of use I've only had 2 occasions that I can recall when the map was out of date, and one case where it was too far advanced, showing a road that was being built but not yet completed!

Garmin describes the traffic monitoring as HD Digital Traffic. I'm not sure what traffic services they use. I don't find many road problems with the maps, but I do find some POI discrepancies, particularly restaurants.

As for the traffic data, we find that Google maps give excellent road conditions. We live in SW Florida, and had to evacuate for hurricane Irma. The road we had to take was Interstate 75 north to Georgia. My GPS didn't show traffic congestion nearly as well as Google maps. Many of the congested areas we encountered didn't show on the GPS at all. The data must be available. My smartphone shows it much more accurately than my GPS.

I am not sure how it relates to this thread, but regarding traffic and road condition reporting, I have found the Garmin Smartphone Link to have far better reporting than the HD Traffic receiver. Note that Garmin no longer bundles a traffic receiver with any of the new Drive x1 models so it is clear that they are moving away from the radio frequency traffic reporting in favor of the smartphone provided reporting.

Just checked GE. Nothing out so far. I would guesstimate, that it will be sometime this month, or maybe the next.

Latest GE update (5.7.1.0) seems quick since the last one. In the past, this usually signaled a) a bad job with the first one, 2) In preparation of a map update ....

I guess we'll see ........

Anyway to see WHAT is different in the 'next update' rather than downloading 3gb if nothing relevant to what i will ever use (say in OR and 37 updates on east coast)
