Did I miss a memo or something, the last COW was for the Week of 08-24-2026?

Re: COW Awards

I was wondering the same thing. I hope Angela and JM are okay...

Re: COW Awards

I also miss them.

Email

I was emailing Angela last week about a speed cam. I haven't heard from her this week though.....

Recently online?

I think I saw “Glove Turtle” online either Sunday or yesterday.

I know here in SE Pennsylvania people travel a lot in September, especially those without kids. Weather is usually good and places aren’t busy.

COW

We're needing to pause on adding any pics or bmps as well as some file related items for a bit. Since those things are part of the contributions we usually think about when considering contributor's of the week we're also pausing on that. I'll let you know if and when we're able to resume or change that.

JM did have surgery recently but is recovering well.

Maybe these are this week's COWS? ;)

MY TO DO LIST:

1.Buy four pigs

2. Paint numbers 1,2,3& 5 on their backs

3. Release them at the mall

4. Sit back and watch security desperately search for number 4!

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Wow, I'm in good company!

And here I thought I was the only one that missed these recognitions.

Gotcha

Thanks for the reply, Godspeed for a speedy recovery for JM.

The "if" part of that sounds rather ominous.... surprised

Unless there are issues with hosting costs due to JM being under the weather, this is nothing to worry about. One thing I have been consistent on is mentioning that the site's forum software should be moved off Drupal and onto something more modern, like XenForo. Because, unless things have changed a lot of the technical issues that pop up on this site are due to the forum software - Drupal - being more prone to breakage than alternatives.

Even if Drupal is rock solid stable now there is so much more that could be done with modern message forum software. But, having built message boards using phpBB and XenForo in the past I know that switching forum software is a lot of work and I totally understand the resistance towards changing the software, even if I don't agree with it myself.

xenforo

I have worked a lot with Xenforo, about 7 years as a moderator at MacRumors which has around a million members and over 10,000 posts a day. Lots to keep up with, but Xenforo scaled pretty well. Have been an admin/mod at a smaller Xenforo forum for a long time and it works nicely for that as well.

I have also moderated a fair amount with phpBB and a few others. GPSReview ran something called "Vanilla" that I never much cared for.

For me, the worst is the "Simple Machines" software that's used at gpsfiledepot. A real pain to moderate and lacks the kind of modern spam tools that xenforo has. But I agree, making the transition from this forum software to Xenforo would be quite a project for the site owner/administrator.
