Android Auto failure

Just got back from a trip to Disney World. I used Android Auto and my smartphone and google maps for the trip there without any problems. On the way home a week later the app would fail on the phone continuously. Luckily I was able to use my on board navigation as a work around. At a stop I googled to learn a recent update to Android Auto was the culprit. and a new release was supposed to fix the issue, I downloaded it and continued on my journey, low and behold the problem kept occurring, so back to the on board navigation. Turns out the car Android Auto needed to be reset also to correct the issue.

Needless to say I wasn't very happy with Google and what an untimely mistake by them with the holiday weekend, I wonder what the impact to unsuspecting travelers really was. It's a shame because I really like the Android Auto setup, just afraid it may be unreliable in the future.

Android Auto

I have not been paying any serious attention to tech news for a long time, and was not aware of the existence of Android Auto. It is not obvious to me at the moment that it has any advantages over my existing TomTom device, but thanks for mentioning it - even if you did so in a negative context smile

I think that I will try to keep an eye on Android Auto in case future versions add value for me.

Android Auto is surprisingly good.

I was disappointed that an update rolled out that affected the operation while I was on a long trip.

They have since updated the software and I haven't experienced anymore problems.

Android Auto links with hands free operation allowing you to send texts and answer calls easily.

I use it with Google Maps right now and have been waiting to see how it works with Waze. Supposedly Waze will support it soon. I wish Garmin didn't give up on their smartphone software Viago, so quickly, I liked it.

Agree.

I couldn't agree more ... a terrible decision by Garmin.

That's a good reminder to never let SW update automatically. I've turned off that feature in the Play Store.
