Free space on a New Garmin drive Smart 60LM?

I just bought a new drive smart 60LM, downloaded the latest map 2018.20. After the map downloaded in Garmin Express I selected add map to computer. After over 3 hours the progress bar was stuck on 50%. Unplugged the Garmin, otherwise it would still be sitting at 50%. Everything works fine, but the Garmin is 98% full. Does this sound right?
I think I must be confused. My DSL speed is always around 15 Mbps.

According to the FAQ, the Drive 60 has 7GB of internal storage:

It sounds possible to me that a Drive 60 with the 2018.20 map could be nearly full. I base this on my reading here and my results with a nuvi 3597 (8GB internal storage) showing that even with the removal of unneeded files, the 3597 can be 98% full (100-200MB free space).

The Garmin FAQs here have one showing how it's possible to free up space by removing unneeded files. The FAQs also show how you can add extra English language voices to take up more space. rolleyes

In any case, it's not something to worry about since a future map update that will no longer fit in the Drive 60 will offer you the option to install the map to a SD card.

I think I'm reading that the 2018.20 map has been successfully installed to your Drive 60 and to your computer so all is good.

Thank you CraigW, I wondering if I messed something up with disconnecting when Express was still hooked up. I probably should have checked the free space when I took it out of the box, hindsight's 20/20. I have a 32GB micro SD card somewhere, I'll put it in and not worry about the next update. Thanks again and have a Great week.

two different issues

One issue is free space on the 60LM. The other issue is the slow DSL speed available.

There is no problem if the GPS is 98% full as long as the entire map was installed properly. Garmin Express does not use an existing SD card unless the map will not fit on the GPS at all. Just install the SD card for the next map update.

In my opinion the map may not be finished downloading after 3 hours at 15 Mbps, but did you say the map was finished downloading to the computer?

The action of the Garmin Express progress bar leaves a lot to be desired. My map updates always complete but the progress bar never makes sense. Stuck at 50% may mean it is stuck or actually still downloading. Since the process took so long there is some question whether the battery ran down or whether the USB connection was good.

You could reinstall the map after installing the SD card, or "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and wait for the next map update.

Issues

The map download completed in a little over 1 hour. the program hung or whatever happened when the map was being transferred into the computer for use in Basecamp.
Thanks for the info.
