violations (school bus stop arm cams)

Today, I saw two cars blow a school bus' reds when it clearly had its stop arm out.

In my state, a conviction is an automatic suspension, and oddly, or not oddly, the bus driver has the ability to report the violation. I believe there is an assumption that they are too busy to be able to effectively capture the plates. The technology believe it or not is cost prohibitive to equip cams on the stop arm.

If I had my BlackVue installed, all of this would be in 1080p.

On the one hand, I get it, people are annoyed by school buses, yet at the same time, most have kids. Another observation, is kids seem to be not that concerned if they are late for the bus. I see them walking up to the bus even though the bus has been waiting for them for maybe 60+ secs. on a major road.

In a perfect world, I honestly think cars would adhere to the law, red means stop. Before we can figure it all out, I think we should in fact capture everything in high def, and use the footage as deemed appropriate.

instead of having to hold the sign, she should have her license suspended, but then, I saw that they had already done that.

I think with the fine and suspension, that is sufficient....but in PA I believe it's 60 days.

This is one area where I do believe there's a lack of awareness, yes, if you're running late, getting stuck behind a school bus is not in your best interest. But those flashing red lights are very serious, I would say even more so than a normal red light at an intersection. From a legal standpoint, that is supported--you wouldn't have your license suspended when you blow a normal red light.

When one thinks about it, the length of a yellow on a school bus is completely random--it's determined by the bus driver, unlike on a traffic signal, it's the same length, everytime. So, unlike a traffic signal, YELLOW MEANS STOP (in my state the court system has case law to support). This, is where, I think there is a lack of awareness.

If anybody thinks there are just too many rules to keep track of, maybe it's time to use UBER and not drive...my .02

School bus drivers

School bus drivers are under a lot of pressure. They have a tight schedule to adhere to and foremost, they are responsible for the safe passage of children with pent up energy that often consumes most of their attention.

Many buses are fitted with video cameras inside to monitor the passengers and maybe the driver to aid in the investigation of any incidents on board. The idea of adding a cam on the swing arm that is active when the lights are on is a great idea. While money is tight, what are the costs if a kid gets hit?

The morning route is often in competition with those driving to work, especially those who misjudged their time and find themselves impatiently behind a bus stopping every block or two. I've noticed the driver on the route I travel often pauses a moment after she turns the lights off to allow stopped cars to pass by before she starts up again. Perhaps that is part of their training.

Those cameras have been in

Those cameras have been in use in Virginia in some counties for at least 5 years now. It's mounted on the side of the bus, under the stop sign, and is activated by the Red lights.

my timing

was the same this AM, same bus, same location, and nobody ran his/her red signals. I honestly feel that many are not aware a violation is an automatic suspension, and they don't realize how serious it is.

Really, it's a major hassle to have one's license suspended, most reasonable persons would not want to have that happen as a result of passing a school bus...imho

today

my wife was looking out the window, and filmed the school bus in front of the neighbor's house from the 2nd floor, and captured a car blowing by the school bus. So imagine, this could be my kid being picked up if he were old enough. Her iPhone video does not show the plate, but it's pretty clear what happened. No way to dispute the bus' lights, a kid going into the bus, and the vehicle passing.

Again, I get it, school buses are super inconvenient when you're behind and going to work. I guess the penalty is there, it's severe, but rarely enforced. That's why technology has the potential to change behavior. When you see a video in HD, you can't help but wonder what the driver is thinking. Probably that this will save them 5-10 min.

I've

got to get the BlackVue installed because I'm thinking I will start posting on YouTube.

Today, I am behind a school bus, directly. Cars are trying to pass him on the shoulder before the lights go on.

HOW STUPID IS THIS, passing a bus on the RIGHT, that happens to be the side it's going to have kids board from?

If I had my BlackVue, it would have shown 2 cars passing the bus on the shoulder, and yes, prior to its lights turning on. I honestly believe that is very dangerous. I bet these two motorists would argue, the lights were not on yet, so I accelerated and got by it legally.

if this really blows your skirt up....

Why don't you just talk with the cops about about those that are repeat offenders.. Let them issue citations

Don't use terms like "skirt," it's not appropriate on a forum.

If people don't know School Bus Rules

How did they get their Drivers license?

lemme count the ways

1). They paid someone off

2). Got it as a prise from a Cracker Jacks box

3). Given to em' from a game show when they won a vehicle

4). A sanctuary state gave it to them because they couldn't read, write or comprehend English

5). They didn't bother to get one and they believe it's either an entitlement or it's protected by the first amendment as being an expression

I'm sure there are more.. but my simple mind can't think of em'
