yikes - MP3 option just disappeared from my c550?!?

Hi-
anyone run across this one? My new c550 just seemed to have the music note (icon for the mp3 player) disappear.... I just used it 3 hrs ago fine.... I tried to reinstall the software from webupdater. I am reluctant to reset the software - when I had the c530, THAT caused my maps to lock out with no repair....

Have done nothing but add a few small csv's since I ran the mp3 player....

Any ideas?! Help!

Thanks!
Paul

reset

PD -- How did you do the reset on your C530? Is there some sort of hardware switch/button?

I would imagine that others have reset their C530/C550. Does anyone have successful results to report?

FOUND THE MP3 PROBLEM! - was

FOUND THE MP3 PROBLEM! - was the POIs!!

Yes there's a reset behind the bezel - but I did that on my c530 I returned - and the maps locked out and refused to unlock with the alphabit soup slip in the box... (ergo I went upward to the 550 )...

This might be something to note for other POI users too... I have 3 SD cards, and all seemed fine until recently reading MP3, etc etc, but I added prox alarms to a recent set of POIs and all heck broke loose on the MP3 player (ie it refused to show a music icon). The earlier iterations of music & POIs on my other 1GB and 2GB SD Cards worked fine; Garmin recommended it was the SD, so I reformatted that SD, pulled a backup copy from my desktop - and same thing. So I dumped it to the other 2GB SD - same problem. so I dumped the older build of POIs and MP3s on the 1GB to both 2GB SDs - and all three run 4.0...

So then I uploaded the latest POI pile alone, from Desktop to the newest 2GB - BACK to the ole no-player problem. So I erased all POIs, uploaded instead my desktop pile of MP3s - and all works fine...

So now I am weeding thru my POI files to see which one is crashing the MP3 player on my 550... will pass if I find out which one, or if it's the prox alarms I'd most recently set...

it's very weird, but worth knowing - POIs somehow interrelate to the MP3 (maybe other?) portions of the Streetpilot software... If your Garmin acts up, it may not be that specific function causing the issue...

More when I zero in...

Glacier CSV maybe defective?

Narrowed it down to the one csv that fails in my c550 (at least causes it to kill the mp3 player) - is the glacier csv in the outdoor section.... I reloaded it from the website and still had the same problem...

all other POIs work fine in my c550-

If it turns out not so later (I am also looking at what the upper limit of POIs I am allowed to load - don't think that's the issue, but I have not fully eliminated it) - I'll post my findings...

Best,
Paul
