Capacitive screens yes or no

I’m considering whether to replace my almost new nuvi 52lm. I have been looking at 58LM or the 2539lmt,2589. The 58 has all the features that I like: school zone speed, lane guidance (for exits) real directions (turn left at the gas station)direct access and 4 square. The 2539 & 2589 have most of those features. My question is the 2539 & 2589 have capacitive screens. Does capacitive screen add much to the function of the unit or is it lipstick on a pig (like the M3 players). I’m really not interested in traffic, since I only use the GPS during long trips not locally. Locally I either know the way without assistance or use my Iphone.
Any imput into my decision is helpful.

From a review

"If possible, you should opt for a capacitive touchscreen over a resistive one. Capacitive screens are great to have because they are highly accurate and sensitive, and they enable you to make pinch-to-zoom gestures just as you would on a modern smartphone – an ability you don’t get with resistive touchscreens. Because capacitive displays respond to the electrical conductivity of your skin, you don’t have to press the screen hard to get a reaction. Resistive screens, on the other hand, rely on blunt pressure, so you can use any object to touch the screen, such as a stylus or your finger even with gloves on. These screens require more force to get a reaction, and they typically have slower reaction times. Resistive screens have lower resolutions than capacitive screens and typically can’t get as bright."

I agree with mmullins98

I would go with the Capacitive screen for all of the above reasons.

Capacitive screen make the experience really different

As a 3590 user and recent drive 60 user, I tell you go with capacitive screen as much as possible. It is like you use an iPhone or cheap Android phone. To be precise:
1. Smooth input and zoom
2. more sensitive response to press
3. Better resolution
4. Glossy touch feeling

Maybe best to give it a try in the store, and you will know.

I have an old one with resistance type screen and 2 new ones with Capacitive. No contest that the capacitive are much better and more accurate than the older resistive ones.

For what it's worth

For what it's worth, Waze IMHO seems to handle many of those functions and is a simple download to android or iphone, I believe.

Capacitive, FTW

And, no phone data required like Waze.

Definitely Capacitive

More durable.
Easier to clean.
Greater sensitivity.
Better functionality.

thumbs up

. 2 Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S, Nuvi 2689, 2 Nuvi 2460, Zumo 550, Zumo 450, Uniden R3 radar detector with GPS built in, includes RLC info. Uconnect 430N Garmin based, built into my Jeep. .

???

What GPS device are you considering that has a resistive screen?

I didn't realize resistive screens would be an option for a modern device.

capacitive!

Much more responsive.

The Zumo models still use

The Zumo models still use resistive screens. The reason is so they will be "glove friendly".
