iPhone 7? Upgrade or Not?

Out of curiosity, how many actually preordered or plan to get the iPhone 7?

I actually preordered since T-Mobile actually had a great offer to get it for free with trade in, trade in value bill credit and EIP financed by T-Mobile for 24 months.

iPhone

I have had an iPhone 4S since the day it was released back in October 2011. Now that it is no longer supported by iOS software updates, I realize that I am going to have to replace it. That plus it does not support LTE and OS and app updates over the years have slowed it to a crawl. There is nothing wrong with the hardware itself. If I took it back to 2011 in its original software configuration it would work great.

I tend to keep my electronic devices until they are no longer viable so the next phone I get will most likely be something I use for another five years. So that brings up the question as to which device do I get. I could save some money and buy last years model, a 6S. The advantage there is it is a bit cheaper and it has the 3.5mm headphone jack. The downside is I do not know how long Apple will keep supplying iOS updates to it. At the very least, it will be one year less than the iPhone 7. There is also the possibility Apple will go back to its old update schedule and shave an additional year off of the update schedule. The 4S (and iPad 2) was unusual as everyone was surprised when Apple supported iOS 9 on it. It was the only 32-bit phone left in their lineup. Now with iOS 10, they only support 64-bit platforms.

So, I will continue to have to sort this out and dig into the rumors reports to see what is coming down the road. The iPhone 7 appears to be a transitional model to what is expected to be a radical design change in 2017. Also, I would not purchase a new phone until Black Friday. For the last several years, Apple has usually offered a free $75 gift card on Black Friday purchases. I bought an iPad Air a few years ago and got a free $75 gift card from Apple. That is useful for getting a case or some other accessory (like an extra MMX62AM/A lightning to 3.5mm adapter for $9).

I have iphone 6 plus for almost 2 years now but it still works fine and I am not missing any great feature except for 3D touch. These phones have become so expensive that it is very hard to buy them so frequently nowadays.

I went from the 6 to the SE.

I went from the 6 to the SE. I disliked the large size phone. The SE is a 6S but in the smaller size, the same as your 4. I think that this will give you at least as much service as the 7 will and will probably be supported at least as long as the 7 will.

I have the 6S and will wait

I have the 6S and will wait next year. 2017 will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone that debuted in 2007. Hoping Apple will create something special.

Upgraded

I have a 6 and, while happy with it, upgrad d to a 7 for the better camera and 3D Touch. The 6 will either get handed down to a relative or relegated to a work phone.

Nah. I am waiting for the

Nah. I am waiting for the next. Have the iPhone 6+ and just upgraded iOS so it's just like new!

I'm an android guy but wifey loves the iphone line, a week ago she was complaining about still paying for the last phone on the monthly bill, then yesterday said she wants to the new one. I don't know what's worse, the fact that phones these days cost more than my first car or the fact they will only work on the system you have at the time, like AT&T, Verizon, etc.

My iPhone 6 is now paid off and ...

... I will be keeping it for another year. Probably will get an iPhone 7 when it comes out. Now with no contract with Verizon, we knocked $50 off of our monthly bill.

I know two

people who like to get things day 1. They went online a week ago Saturday, and their phones were delivered last Friday. Can anybody explain why people were camped out at stores last Friday? Isn't it easier to simply order online and have it shipped to one's house? It's aberrant behavior imho

Aint necessarily so... the iPhone6 I presently use was originally in use on a T-Mobile affiliated carrier and is now in use on Verizon.

iPhone 5c

My family teases me, and techies scorn me because I use the lowly 5c. I just replaced the screen, swapping my wifes inactive 5c screen in (she has the 6S Plus). I think I'll end up getting one, but was hoping for discounts a few months after the excitement wears off.

The 5c is getting hard to charge. I have to firmly push in the lightning cord, and pull to the side to get a connection. New ports are cheap ($6.85) but would take about 15-20 minutes to install into a phone my carrier has no trade-in value.

Maybe true now, in fact I thought I read about legislature that may have changed that, but never heard if it passed. Still $500 or more for a phone is ridiculous.

I worked overnight Friday, on the way home at 5:30 Saturday morning I passed an Apple store on Walnut St. in Philly, figured there must be a new gizmo coming out.

4S...

I have the 4S and use it for just talk and text... so there's no reason why I need to upgrade to a newer model.

There are enough changes every two years, so I'll get the iPhone 7 Plus this time.

At work, many of our users that simply must have one will pre-order, and have it delivered.

I do know several (mostly younger) individuals that say that half of the fun is waiting in line and camping out with others having the same interest. One young lady told me she does it because she hopes to be on TV. So, if seeing yourself on a random newscast panned shot of this frenzy excites you, then rock on.
