Garmin USA / North America iPhone Map Update

Anyone know when the new Garmin map updates come out for the Garmin USA / North America iPhone app? It's still showing 2016.10 maps when 2017.20 maps are out for the Garmin GPS units. Seems to me they would release an update more frequently especially to compete with other apps like Waze, Google, MapQuest, etc.

I'm quite frustrated by the lack of updates

I'm not holding my breathe.

My version say 2.10.0.161

My version say 2.10.0.161 (161). I do not see 2016.10 maps under about, however don't remember in App Store saying an update was available either. You bring up a good point on how often do they update the App? Just out of wondering is your version the same as mine?

Garmin's Navigon apps get quarterly updates

I recently updated my Navigon North Amerca app and after was presented with the map update.

Garmin USA/North America iPhone Map Update

Ptownoddy,

You should email Garmin regarding this issue. Sometimes you need to be the squeaky wheel to get the grease!

iPhone Works Just Fine

iPhone uses Google maps just fine. No need to buy another phone.

Speaking of behind the times... Google's iOS Maps app is one of many that work just fine on iPhones...and any deficiencies of Google's app on iOS are on Google.

Apple

I thought Apple had their own maps. Why do they have to use google maps or is just a customer choice?

Google Maps is an APP, and

Google Maps is an APP, and has been able to be installed on iPhones since at least iPhone 4. Apple does have it's own mapping app, but it still isn't up to Google Map usability. It's close, though.

One doesn't HAVE to use Google Maps, there is a choice to use either one. But GM has to be downloaded and installed, it's not included in the initial software.

Deleted

I deleted the Garmin app from my phone since the maps hadn't been updated in quite a while. Freed up quite a bit of space too.

Apple Maps in the iOS 10 Beta are pretty good.

Off topic.

I know this is off topic, but I am still PO'ed at Garmin for eliminating the Viago app. It worked great, was both Iphone and Android, they provided map updates (same as nuvi's). I guess it was just too good of an app and threatened their own market share in nuvi market. I would have even been willing to pay a reasonable annual fee for map updates ... too bad Garmin decided to protect the past instead of investing in the future. ... Ok, that was kind of a rant which I normally don't do smile

Garmin Iphone app

I don't use this app, but rather use MotionX GPS as my iphone gps application. The native maps app is okay, but isn't quite as flexible in terms of queries. Google maps works fine on my iphone, but like all apps isn't always accurate. I use MotionX as my standby "real" gps app. I use my Nuvi as my main reference in my vehicle, and have a couple of handheld units which I'd use in preference if planning to be out in the sticks. MotionX allows me to do map downloads and use the iphone as a standalone gps even when the cell service fails. Belt and suspenders I suppose. wink

Have you looked at the Navigon app? I think Garmin bought that one and dropped Viago...
