POI Loader won't convert audio files

Latest version of POI Loader has decided it doesn't like my audio files (neither MP3 nor WAV versions). All the audio files came from here on POI Factory.

Thoughts?

Symptom

Are you getting an error message or are they just missing on the GPSR?
Also, please specify the loader version number and the OS you use.

.WAV and SOX

If you are talking about your nuvi 2797LMT, you must use .WAV files, not .MP3. And if you are using the Windows version of POI Loader, you must have the correct version of the SOX sound converter installed in the same folder where POI Loader is installed. See the POI Factory FAQ's for more info http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

For the wav files to work you need sox.exe installed at the correct location see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .Video version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsJTUmvb6_o

The biggest problems with the alerts not working are the files not being named the same except for extensions and having double extensions. Double-check each of them. The best way to prevent double extensions is to go to your folder options in the control panel and click view then find hide extensions for known file types and remove the check mark. Click ok. Yup, that happens a lot. But at least we gave consistent advice smile

Yup

As mentioned before, file names have to be EXACTLY identical.

Such as

file.MP3
file.wav
file.jpg
file.gpx
file.csv

The WAV or MP3 depending on GPS. Also either GPX or CVS but not both.

My (wild) thoughts

You've been around 8 years and given that, you may have recently upgraded from an older mp3-capable GPS to a newer one requiring wav files. In this case, the advice already offered (install sox and use wav files) is where you need to start.

My wild assumption: it seems from what you write and your long user status here that you've had success with custom audio alerts for your custom POIs but a recent update of POI Loader suddenly has them failing. If true, continue to my wild thought...

My wild thought: If your 2797 had custom audio alerts before upgrading POI Loader but lost them with a updated version of POI Loader, it may be that your old POI Loader was quite old and your new POI Loader is the latest version (which has been out for a long time but maybe you just got around to installing it). The current version of POI Loader is 2.7.3.0. If your previous version was earlier than 2.6.1, note that it installed to a different folder on your computer than is now used. Worse, upgrading to a 2.6.1 or newer version did not delete the older version resulting in two versions of POI Loader install on your computer. See:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33984

If this is the problem, your sox.exe may be in the old version's folder and needs to be moved to the new folder (along with deleting the old POI Loader program files and folders).

@AJBoots

Let us know how you make out once you installed the sox.exe and the wav file according to the FAQ.The mp3 files are only still around for the older GPS devices with the mp3 feature. Another feature that once all the old units are replaced will be a thing of the past unless Garmin decides to bring it back.

Keep this in mind. If your set up with sox.exe and the wav file is correct. You may not still get a alert if the coordinate are located to far off the road of travel appx 98 feet when in just the navigation mode. The best way to check the alert. Is to set one of the custom pois as a destination and use the simulation mode on the GPS to verify the alert http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45534 . Make sure to use manual mode for PoiLoader to set up the the alert distance you plan to use.

Assuming this applies to your 2797

And also assuming that the 2797 setup screens are similar to those on the 3597, there may be a setting under Proximity Alerts that has a separate toggle for Custom POI alerts. I may be wrong, but I believe it is set off by default on my 3597 and whenever I do a hard reset or after a map version update, it reverts to off. If yours has this setting, verify that Custom POI Alerts are set to ON.

That's the ticket!

Fresh install of Windows on a new hard drive meant I had to install various utility programs anew. I had forgotten about sox. Wonder why Garmin doesn't include it ...

Anyway, thanks!

Sounds like you are now up and running. Sox.exe and wav files not a feature supported by Garmin .So they will not supply any information about it. One of our members gets credit for this feature.

Custom POI Audio Files

I have a similar problem. My system crashed and after reloading everything, I tried to upload all of my POI files from the drive. When the POI Editor got finished, it stated Unable to load the .wav files because they are not in the proper format. I have sox.exe in both the POI Editor and the POI files folder. What could be the problem. I loaded the files before the crash and they worked fine but now the .wav files won't load. My GPS is the Drivelux 51 and I am running Windows 10. Any help would be appreciated.

Dummy me. I figured it out. I had loaded the sox.exe file along with POI Editor instead of the POI Loader. Sorry fellers....
