Yes, I know.

Better to have two solid updates, than 3 or 4 half-baked ones.

2016 updates ....

Isn't the current map (2017.20) our first and only update in 2016?

Soooooooooo, if the above is correct, then the next update could be the last for this calendar year based on the same intervals ....right?

According to http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/17527/when-is-the-nex...
the history is
Jan 27 (Wed), 2016 2017.10
May 18 (Thu), 2016 2017.20

They anticipated the next release to be today, but it looks like that didn't happen sad

Thanks, looks like I missed/forgot the January one then. But it's still clear that their schedule is changed. Based on my limited usage, I don't see a problem with this. I would guess that a few others may find this inconvenient. Changes to maps, POI's and JVC views have to be performed sometime rolleyes

2017.30

The Garmin maps are so out of date compared to Google Maps, that by the time they get around to releasing 2017.30.... the information is already 9 months old. But at least the mountains have not moved. Wish they would update the driving units like the aircraft ones- every 28 days. Still waiting on 2017.30.

No year

I said awhile back that Garmin needs to publish maps MORE, not less, in order to keep up with Google. If the cycle is really 3 maps per year, that means it will take *longer* for changes on the map to show up since there's an additional lag on releasing.

And while I agree Google maps are more up to date, I have seen many, many instances where they are sloppy and incomplete compared to HERE's maps.

My new prediction

Since I missed Sept 21st as the release date, my crystal ball now is showing that on Oct 21 we can expect the new map release.

My Next Guess

... Oct. 5th!

I heard a rumor

I heard a rumor Garmin will be introducing a new series of units that provide maps and directions as a service. There will be two basic models, one that uses the data from your smart phone and one that has a cellular modem installed you can connect to the carrier of your choice. All maps and directions will be provided through your direct connection to Google maps. The units will cost $65 and $25 per month with a 2 year commitment or retail for $799 for the one with the built-in modem and $499 for the one linking directly through your personal smartphone. Lifetime maps will be done away with because of the new systems. Traffic is provided by Google as well. You will also be able to link your Pay Pal account and have a link directly to Amazon for music and audio books. First units will ship this spring on or about April first.

Shady Sites

Back a couple of years or more ago, some of the shady sites you are probably talking about made available downloads of map updates a couple of weeks before Garmin officially released them. I'm not sure how this occurred but my guess is that Garmin released the map updates early to beta testers that somehow made their way to the torrent sites.

October 1st

I say page five or October first, which ever comes first. grin grin

Also still waiting but glad I figured out cable issue

One of my mini-USB cables, the only one I had with a Garmin logo, decided to stop working intermittently. I couldn't figure out why my zumo was refusing to stay connected to our main pc. Fortunately, I decided to check if it was the cable by using my daughter's Barbie doll charger/sync (it has a cheap camera in it) cable.

Need new map

My new house has been on the extension of new street for a year now and still not on the last update. Hopefully this time around.
