Garmin suction cup

I've put this into the Garmin thread because I consider it my Home thread, but it is equally applicable to any suction cup.

I think my Nuvi 855 is probably 10 years old by now. I've found the suction cup losing it's hold for some time.

What I did yesterday was to thoroughly clean the suction cup with rubbing alcohol. (Instead of drinking it ,LOL)

24 hours later I tried to remove the unit from the windshield and it was stuck like glue.

good advice

rubbing alcohol does wonders on cleaning

.

Yes, it really gets rid of all the contaminants that prevent it from sealing. Nothing like that thing falling off the windshield and trying to get it and put it back up at 65mph.

if that stops working ...

If you find that no longer works there's a new generation of replacement cups that use a powerful combination of polyurethane gel and suction to provide a maximum surface bond, if it starts to lose it's grip a little warm water and soap makes it like new.

These really stay put, I've had one on my work truck windshield for just about a year now, all kinds of temperatures, and it hasn't moved. I bought a couple for my GPSs. There are a few on the market, they go by the keywords "sticky cup" the brand/model I bought is: ARKON GN079WD

But one thing you have NOT mentioned is whether these sticky cups are a direct replacement on a GARMIN or other GPS.
A lot of Garmin mounts do more than just hold the darn thing in place.

According to my search, I believe that you should provide a link to the product !!!!

BTW: I just typed "Sticky cups" into GOOGLE and these are the choices which came up "Sticky cup bras, Sticky cupcakes, Sticky cup Victoria's secret".

Almost all the rest were here, only for radar detectors:
https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=sticky+cup

This one is by far the best one which came up at Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=sticky+cups&tag=go...

Geez, I wonder what's in your search history that all that came up ... razz, I get none of that when I search .... In any event I gave you the model name and number "ARKON GN079WD" of the specific one I use for my 2689, from there I'm sure you could find others.

This particular one is the one I bought, everything up to the ball, no power.

You ought to try that driving a bus where you can't even reach the floor!

window mount

I gave up on the window mount. it kept on falling off at the most inopportune times. Also, it was hard to managed the touchscreen since it was so far away. I replaced it with the friction mount which I place on the niche on my dashboard (where the radio/backup screen it). It is more convenient and portable. It does shift sometime when making to sharp of a turn but I just put it back to where I want it.

nice options

Slod Base instead of Suction Cup

I got tired of suction cup coming off specially on a very hot day, so I replaced it with Garmin Portable Friction Mount. It is very simple and amazing to use. You can find it for a reasonable price.

I've used soap and water but

I've used soap and water but not alcohol. I will try that next time!

Works great...

The Garmin bean bag has worked great for me for the last 7 years...to me suction cup holders are the worst... just my opinion...

Bean Bag

I have used the bean bag for many years but as time passed the suction failed at the worst time. I solved the problem by gluing the suction cup to the bag. No problems since.

Bean bag

Dont know what kind of bean bag you have. With the Garmin bean bag the unit locks on to it. No suction cup.

After market bean bag !

As an aside, after having cleaned up the suction cup with rubbing alcohol it sticks like glue. I needed to remove it today from the windshield and it was hard to remove.
So try that if you are having problems with the suction cup !

No problems

I don't have any problems because I don't use a suction cup at all. Have not for many many years... They also leave a tell tale sign on your window for thieves....
