Just posted update 3.80 - enhanced touch screen operations
Be Cautious
Installed V3.8 on an older Nuvi 660 - now I can no longer use a stylus to select items.
Screen recalibration did not help.
Tried pencil with eraser as a stylus - works!
The flat end of the eraser works best (as opposed to the edge). Soooo...a larger flat surface works with the touchscreen.
If you need to revert back to the Nuvi660 V 3.70
http://gpsinformation.org/perry/nuvi/
has code versions for nuvis. I downloaded the code and after reloading, reset user data and life is good!
how?
FPichon,
How did you roll that back. I just updated to 3.8 and I am thinking of stepping back to 3.7. Do you just download the 3.7 update from there and run it? Do you have to remove anything from the Nuvi prior to that or just run the file just as you did the 3.8 one?
I had some weirdness after I ran 3.8 too. Not that my 660 wasn't working properly but that in the diag screen the FW version shows as 3.8 and the Unit ID shows properly but everything else (voice ver, GPS SW ver etc.) all show as N/A.

Nuvi Rollback
It is important to save your "favorites" file (Garmin>gpx>current.gpx). It is not a bad idea to back up the unit prior to any installation.
I downloaded the software and ran the executable. At the re-boot, it was clear that the user options were cleared, as were the "favorites". I set the user options as desired, reloaded the current.gpx file to restore the favorites, and then checked the Where to?>Extras> to ensure that the Fodor's travel guide and the custom poi's were indeed still there. The additional vehicles and splash screen jpg's were in their folders and could be selected as well.
Both of my Nuvi660's recovered successfully using these steps.
The Nuvi shows V3.70, Audio V 1.40, GPS SW V2.90, BT V 2.80
Check the gpspassion site for the nuvi forum. Some had to clear the user options at boot time to get the unit to function correctly (If I remember correctly, they recovered from a backup).
Hope this is useful for you!
I think I'm going to stick
I think I'm going to stick by, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". My Nuvi is working perfect, and I'm afraid an update may really get things screwed up.
Garmin 660
thanks
Thanks for the help. I rolled it back to 3.70. I like the more sensative screen. I have a screen saver on the way for it too so I think with the screen saver on a more sensative screen will be better.

Nuvi 660 Software Update
I have had no problems with the update and like the fact the keyboard is more responsive especially if you use the lock feature.

When Garmin comes out with
When Garmin comes out with update 3.9, is it going to put 3.8 in whether we want it or not? Mine is just right, and I don't want 3.8. They should give an option of which downloads to install.
If you wanted to roll back to a previous update, where would you find it? I can't seem to find the old ones. In error I have deleted my old update downloads. Never mind, I found a web site that has all the current and previous upgrades.

This looks like a pick and choose.

Mine Works
I just updated to 3.8 on a 680 and my stylus works. Also, the sensitivity problem is gone.

When Garmin Comes Out With
Don't know for sure but the description on this update only addresees the issue of sensitivity- the next update may only address other issues and then again they may come up a major update for all known issues. Some software automatically checks if you have a particular patch and if not, installs it as part of the upgrade. The developers usually assume after an update has been delivered usually because people are asking for it and no major hiccups occur they have solved a problem that people wanted solved. Good developers usually use beta groups before unleashing updates on their patrons.
While I can appreciate your concern this update is certainly very worthwhile especailly if you notice that the keyboard is slow at reacting to touch or for those of you that did not notice how slow it was

Thanks to you guys, I found
Thanks to you guys, I found out about and loaded 3.8 into my Nuvi 680. Seemless upgrade that does indeed improve the touchscreen issues and nothing dissppeared, like favorites, recent searches, custom POI files, etc. There was even a Bluetooth firmware update, though I'm not sure what issues this addresses.

The software versions are cumulative so even if you skip a version (or two), next higher version will include the codeset in the skipped versions. This is a standard practice among all software vendors for major/minor versioning as it will make it unmanageable if they have to maintain multiple flavors for a given version.

I had some problems with my Nuvi 660 and the Bluetooth Updater right after I loaded it, but just the one time. Once I got it reset to my Treo 680 it worked fine. No problems with the screen sensitivity, but I do have problems getting the technical stuff using the top right of the screen. Have not been able to get it since I upgraded.
