MP3 volume LOUD; Navigation volume soft

I have a problem with the volume levels not being of equal tone. My 360 is real quiet on the navigation prompts and really LOUD when listening to MP3's. I have tried both the internal speaker and the head phone connection. Both have the same problem.

Volume

You know there are two different adjustments you can make for navigation and audio in setup. Mine works best at 100% for navigation and 90% for audio. If that doesn't work you may have a defective unit. I do not have any volume issues.
I do notice that when I use a cassette to drive the audio through the speaker system I have to turn up the volume knob a lot higher on the radio.

volume levels?

Thanks for the hint tomstack, but I could not find volume setting for the audio/navigation. Can you tell me where to look? I could only find the "master" volume (hit power button). I tried hitting the speaker button (under the mp3 player screen) and adjusting the volume. That seems to adjust the master level.

P.S. I am using the tape cassette adapter.

On my Nuvi 660 you tap the wrench on the main page, then tap the volume button. you should then have navigation & mp3/audible volume controls.

No separate volume controls

Man... That would be nice. There is no volume button from the wrench on the main screen. The only volume I have is by tapping the speaker/gear icon from the main screen. That takes me to the screen contrast control and the master volume.

I put in a request with Garmin to add that ability to the 360 series.

Go to the 'Audio' page and verify 'both speakers' option is selected. I had this problem with a FM Modulator, read that post, and found out only one speaker was selected.

Just a possibility.

We 350/360 users only get a master volume level control

But - there is a solution that user 'Hornbyp' posted on another thread that I used to tweak 'Karen' - it involves opening the voice file in a hex editor (I used a program called EditPad Pro) and modify a file header to increase the volume level. Worked like a charm. "Karen's" voice prompts are louder now, at a similar level to the MP3s when playing through the newly installed interface into my truck's audio system.

file manipulation

kch50428,

was it as easy as backing up the file, making edits and saving the file back to the unit? Or do I have to make all the 000.NEW file copies and such...???

Thanks. This will be a HUGE help!

It's a breeze

I made a back-up copy of the file, made the edit to the volume statement, and saved the file back to my 350. I even tweaked the voice rate from 45 to 55...and Karen talks a wee bit faster.

s-w-e-e-t

I like easy...

even though nothing is ever truly easy...

I Found It Easier

To save the modified file on my computer, then copy that file to the unit. EditPad Pro didn't seem to like saving directly to the GPS.

Easy as 1, 2, 3...

Whoo who!!!!

"That was easy..." as it says when they push the red button.

kch50428, thanks a bunch!

nuvi 360

Same here! I even bought a new radio/cdplayer with audio input. But I get the same
results: loud mp3's and too soft on directional voice.
