Proximity Alerts

Do these only work when you have them selected as your destination, when a route goes close by them, or if you just have the map page up and get close to one.
So far mine only works when I have them selected as the destination

should work all the time

I have a nuvi 350 and they work all the time. Make sure you have loaded them properly.

Proximity Alerts

I have them loaded onto an SD card instead of the unit itself. Would this make a difference. These are POIs that I downloaded from here, along with the alerts.
And this is also on the nuvi 350.

Need to be on the route

When set, the locations need to be on your route in order to work. They are not "line of sight".

I assume that you have either loaded a POI onto your PC that has an automatic proximity alert or you loaded with POI Loader in manual mode and set a proximity alert for the file.

Proximity Alert

Correct, I loaded them with Garmins POIloader and in the manual mode.
I was thinking they would go off anytime I got within 1500 ft (setting I put in for them) of any walmart that I was close to, that I had an alert for. It didn't. I tried to make a route go by it, and it still didn't go off. I placed the Wal-Mart store as my destination and when I got close, it went off. All of this was driving back and forth on the same highway in front of the store trying it out.

Works on my C530

I have those red light camera files loaded to my C530. It did not work the first few days. Then one day it stated to work. No clue what I did.

Still possible it wasn't on your route

I know it is strange, but if the POI was set for the Walmart, and it was in a shopping center, then there have been reports that that is far enough off of the route (i.e. street going past it) that it will not go off. One solution is to move the longitude and latitude for that Walmart onto the entrance to the Walmart and see if that works.

how do you make a POI proximity alert?

What is the proper command in ms excel to set a proximity alert?

Thanks!

Similar questions about speed alerts

I have loaded a couple speed alerts in a separate file with POILoader. I have used the @ afterwards to specify the speed of the "trap". Will the alerts always go off when I get near an @65 alert, or only when I am going faster than 65 Mph? Or is the @65 only for display purposes?
I loaded this file in Manual mode and it asks for the default speed for the file. But it would seem that this would then be the speed for all the alerts in the file, no? Some of my entries are @25, some are @40 and some are @65. So I left the default setting at 0, thinking it would then alert at each point according to the @xx setting for each entry. I was expecting a proximity alert whenever I was exceeding the @ speed limit and quiet otherwise. What I'm getting is a proximity alert no matter how fast I'm driving.
This is on a Nuvi 350, by the way.
