Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – August 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Took my grandchildren back to LA. It took about 3 hours longer than usual because of 4 crashes. Sat for one hour in a tunnel on I70 by Glenwood Springs Colorado, about an hour due to a RV overturned with a car rammed in the back end with 4 ambulances blocking the road and 2 cars trying to merge together at the top of the hill in California just across the Nevada border. Otherwise it was great.

Canfield Fairground

Me and the missus just spent four days at the Canfield, Ohio, fairground for a dog show. Had a good time. My oldie but goodie Nuvi 1450 continues to perform flawlessly.

Quick trip

Took a quick trip from Pittsburgh to Cleveland this past weekend and used the Zumo 590LM motorcycle GPS in the car. With live traffic it kept a good update of the construction delays on the Turnpike.

One fail of the GPS is that it does not advise of the intersection of I-76 and I-80. On this route going straight through the intersection means you change interstate freeways. Especially eastbound, it would be easy to end up on I-80 when you meant to take I-76. It would be a good place for the GPS to say "keep left to I-76".

That is one wicked looking "intersection". But if you are set up on a route should your GPS not tell you in which lane to be?

Both my 855 and 2797 and my former 3790 would/will do that.

Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts prepares you to ride through an exit or interchange with confidence. As you approach, an animated model uses brightly colored arrows to indicate the proper lane needed for your route; a friendly voice offers additional help. Bird’s Eye junction view offers a detailed view of interchanges, looking down as if from overhead. photoReal junction view realistically displays junctions and interchanges along your route, including the surrounding landscape. Brightly colored arrows indicate the proper lane to ride.

West Coast Reunion

Just returned from a bike ride to visit family and reunion in Washington state. Left Texas and road a bit over 2000 miles in 3 days for the reunion. Spent a few day with family before taking a more scenic route home. Took 5 1/2 days to ride home traveling some 2900 miles. Yellowstone was one crazy place to travel thru. Thousands of folks and the speed rarely more than 40 mph. Saw the Grand Tetons, definitely the highlight of the trip. My Garmin performed flawlessly.

slow day

Travelled to Phoenix yesterday .......

good God, the heat was nastier than usual.

Just puttering around the Orlando area for a few hours getting used to the new Harley.

I love just taking a road I've never been on and see where it goes ("following the front wheel").... I find some of the best out-of-the-way places that way.

It's fun to do in a car, but even more special on a motorcycle. With all the rain we've had down here recently, the smells of the flowers in bloom are intoxicating smile

Chi to Warren Dunes and back

Climbed the dunes with the kids. Gasping for air and they thought it quite funny. Great view from up top. Water temps in Lake Michigan seemed warmer than Chicago side of lake. Stopped at Redamaks for some burgers after the trek. Nice relaxing day.
