Is there a separate large JCV file (750+MB) available for Nuvi50LM ??

Hi,
New owner of Nuvi 50LM here as of 9-24-2013 and am seeking some assistance with the JCV file. New 50LM came with 2013.10 map and when I hooked it up to PC, via Garmin Express, it detected a newer map and downloaded it along with other software updates..
However, the included 2014.20 jcv file is not a "photo-Realistic" jcv file. The smaller jcv file in .System\JCV\ file is called, D3479090A.JCV and is only 109,187 KB only.
The 2014.20 version of the jcv was a larger jcv file and is called, D3060110A.jcv and is 798,554 KB. I saved this large jcv file in my SD card under Garmin\JCV\. I know how to do this from having to update quarterly map updates on my other Nuvi 1490LMT which I have been updating for a while.
My questions is, my new Nuvi 50LM (will be given to my son) uses a 1/2 screen for viewing jcv file, but the larger 798KB jcv file is for a FULL SCREEN JCV. I tried this on 50LM and it does not work. When the "Junction View" is to be shown, the screen displays "BLANK". I am wondering if there is a SEPARATE file of a larger JCV file for Nuvis that uses a smaller screen. Or is there a different way to activate the jcv file residing in the SD card...
Thank you for anticipated assistances from the POI community.
.
I'm pretty sure that a search on this web site will bring you to some threads that indicated that the "Essential series" of nuvis to which your 50LM belongs can not use the large JCV file and that you will have to stick with the jcv file supplied by Garmin during the update process.
If I'm remembering correctly, our member Strephon did a majority of the sleuth work in coming to this conclusion.
As always, if I'm remembering any of this past history incorrectly, please correct me.
Thank you CraigW man!!
Thank you CraigW man!! I see your support all over this forum and as a new member of the POI community, I thank you for all your support in case others have not acknowledged already...
So, to cut to the chase, you are saying that I am, with my new "el Cheapo" 5" 50LM, stuck with the generic version of the "junction view" ??
If this is the case, then I am returning this to Staples where I purchsed it from...
Yes, I think

I believe that is correct but we really need someone to confirm my thoughts before you do a return.
Note that if you do buy a fairly-recent more advanced nuvi model which does split-screen JVs, the correct "large" jcv file which comes by default with map updates is around 450-ish MB and is the correct JCV file for that nuvi (with the same JVs as the 750-ish MB large full-screen file offers--split screen uses fewer pixels/image so the same number of JVs can reside in fewer MB) and that you won't need to manually download and install a better jcv file with each map update. The only exception to this thought is if you really want full-screen JVs to be displayed.
Vector and Raster Graphics
The "Essential" series (3x, 4x, 5x) devices only accept the split screen basic JCV file and cannot use photoreal files. This is because the firmware in these units is coded to only recognize a specific type of graphics embedded within the JCV file. In the case of your GPS, it requires - if I recall correctly - vector graphics. The photoreal JCV files use raster graphics.
This contradicts the source statement below, where it is mentioned that the "Essential" line uses raster graphics. However, I believe the poster at the source below has his graphics types backwards. I have demonstrated in the past that using a split-screen junction view file on a full-screen device results in distortion and fuzziness. If the full-screen JCV file is composed of vector graphics then the image should have been stretched, but should not have become fuzzy and difficult to read. Since the image was fuzzy and difficult to read, the full-screen JCV file must actually use raster graphics.
Regardless of whether the poster at the source or myself is correct, the takeaway from this is that the "Essential" devices only support a specific type of graphic image, and the images in the full-screen JCV file aren't that type.

JCV
I have the large JCV installed in my 3790 and it works fine and also have it on a SD card in my 855 because of size limitations and get the full screen in both.

Huh?
@Melaqueman: Apparently the second paragraph in my last post isn't clear, which may explain your comment. It should read as follows:

Thank you, Garmin Scholars !!
Thanks for the very useful information. Well, if my 50LM cannot use the more photo-realistic JVs, then I am going to return my 50LM to the store and shell out a few more bucks and get the one that CAN use the photo-realistic images of the junctions...
What "series" of Garmin Nuvi's or other Road type of GPS support NON-GENERIC JVs????
Thanks...
The 3x, 4x, and 5x units are
The 3x, 4x, and 5x units are the only current nüvis I am aware of that are limited to the non-photoreal file. All the other units currently available from Garmin should be able to use the photoreal JCV file.

PhotoReal vs just Junction View
I found this unique intersection on a route on I-90 in Seattle coming off I-5 (exit 164)northbound to Spokane. I was curious to see how it looks in a Nuvi with the PhotoReal feature. How much more life-like can it be? Maybe someone could post a PhotoReal screenshot for comparison.

Here's the difference.
This one is the basic junction view image from your GPS of I-15N exit 36, Las Vegas, NV: http://www.flickr.com/photos/97612499@N05/9079496891/
This one is the photoreal junction view image of the same exit, from my GPS:

Returned 50LM and picked up Nuvi 2460LMT for $98 on Clearance
I returned the 50LM and got the 2460LMT (older and discontinued model) from Staples in Willow Grove, PA for $4.00 more than 50LM I returned. It was on clearance. It was a brand new unit with a full 1 year factory warranty. I knew it was an older and discontinued model, but the price was unbelievable, so I bought it today.
I did all the usual, map updates, software updates, etc. when the Garmin Express detected new available updates. Now it is updated to map version 2014.20. However, I noticed that the photo-real jcv file was only (D3191100A.JCV, 470447 kb) hidden inside the \.system\jvc. The full sized photo-real junction view was 798, 554 KB. But the smaller sized JCV file DID display the photo-real exit ramps.
Wondered why that is..... Hmmm... I tried to use the full 798kb JCV file (in microSD card) in lieu of the smaller 470KB sized JV, and it did not work. Any idea as to why?
Thanks for all your supports...
Full vs split

The 2460 is a great unit at a really great current price.
The 2460's JCV file is smaller than the "large" jcv file because its images are split screen with roughly half the pixels compared to the full screen JVs displayed on older units. My suggestion is to keep and use the installed 470MB file. Although some folks do prefer the full screen JVs, I believe most folks like the split screen best because of the extra info displayed when approaching a junction.
I like the full screen view of the JV
Hi there CraigW,
Thanks once again for your friendly response. I tried to use the larger 750+MB-ish file in lieu of the 470MB file, but it did not work. How, if I wanted to use the larger file, do I do this? I used the same procedure as I used on my older 1490LMT model. Isn't the procedure the same? One where you disable the jcv file within the \.system\jvc foler and enable the larger file residing in the microSD \garmin\jvc folder, no?
thanks....
2 or 3 thoughts....

First, just to confirm that you have a typo above, does your SD card card have a garmin\jcv folder or a garmin\jvc folder?
I haven't tried running the large jcv file on my 2460 so I don't know if it'll work, but to work, it needs to be in a jcv folder rather than jvc. The 2460 is an 8GB device so you should have room to try the large jcv file in the nuvi itself rather than on a SD card. That'd be worth a try.
Another potential issue is that for the current map in our nuvi 2460, I see that in addition to a large jcv file, there's also a small unl file which may be needed to unlock the jcv file to be used. It may be that the 2460 device needs a jcv file and an unl file for it to work and your large jcv file has no unl file.
There is a discussion here and near the end there is a 2460 user who reports getting the large full-screen JCV file to work:

As I've said, I haven't tried top get the large jcv file to work on my 2460 although I do download and install it on my older nuvi 855 with success.
