Basecamp ("find address" / "find" functions)

Well I finally broke down and used Basecamp, and have deleted MapSource from my PC, to create some POIs. No amount of training videos will quell my disgust with the "find address" or "find" functions in general.

I cannot understand why it it so much more complicated than using Google Earth to find a location. Does Garmin even care? I doubt it, but is is a big minus with me.

In some cases I did not have an address, only a name and city. Google found it, Basecamp did not. I sure miss being able to send Google or Google Earth coordinates to the GPS, but those days are past.

And as a side note, HERE on my smartphone found it just as quickly as Google. Since Garmin Maps are basically HERE maps, what's the problem?

I really like the Garmin units I have access to (3 different models), but this is making me wonder if Tom Tom is any better.

True that BaseCamp and

True that BaseCamp and Garmin use Here's maps. But the problem lies i the search engine in Basecamp. I use Basecamp sometimes just fooling around looking for stuff. But it's much easier to use Google or Here.

BaseCamp and Google Maps

Use Google Maps for your search, copy and past the coordinates to Basecamp Map...

Lesson 4 at the 14.44 mark may be of some help...

Yes, of course, but wouldn't

Yes, of course, but wouldn't it be GREAT if the Garmin product actually was even a little bit easier to use?

I can't understand what convoluted thinking designed that search function, which IMHO is a carryover from MapSource with even more stumbling blocks built in to make it even harder. Someone at Garmin thinks BaseCamp is worthwhile?

It has been deleted from my PCs, along with the Map.

As for plotting routes in BaseCamp, sometimes they transfer to the GPS and are as plotted, sometimes not, and need to be tweaked again. Waste of Time. Better just to do it all on the GPS and save yourself the aggravation.

Have

Have you tried Tyre? I've gone to it for creating routes and transferring them to my various Nuvi models. Works pretty well for that and the find function makes more sense than Basecamp. It is geared more toward the TomTom and it has a bit of a learning curve but nothing as bad as Basecamp. Created routes will transfer as GPX files and show up in Trip Planner on the Nuvi.

The free version does everything I want and can be downloaded from http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/

Thanks, I'll give that a try this weekend.
