Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – April 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

All over

Just returned from Southern Cal......
Heading to Minnesota tomorrow.

Where has mine taken me?

HOME.

One of the two main routes south from my home is closed for a major construction project, right at the intersection with the first major road south of me. To one side is woods, to the other side is a confusing labyrinth of one-ways, dead ends, and roads that don't run straight in the neighboring town. I was able to use the map on my Garmin to find a route that would connect me through to my street, and for the last several weeks, have been retracing that little blue line to get home quicker. The navigation feature wants to take me down the highways, which adds five, long traffic lights, and actually adds several minutes to the trip, as well as an extra mile.

San Jose to Jackson CA

Lovely time of year in gold country.

To Germany

Only used Garmin to get to and from airport (2-hour drive). don't have Europe maps, so relied on iPhone Maps for that part of the trip. Did Viking Cruise and visited son (USMC) and family. Very nice time!

New old restaurant...

Went to New Smyrna Beach, and decided to try the Grill at Riverview . Even though we've been past the place at least 5K times over the last twenty years, we never tried it. (and I lived in New Smyrna for a couple of years as well). Wish we had tried it sooner.

Though it was a bit pricier than the places we normally go to when going to the beach, it wasn't that much more (about $45.00 for two with a couple of drinks - the drinks were as much as the entrees' - but that's normal just about everywhere beach-side). Outstanding food, atmosphere, and the view of the Indian River is great (it sits right next to the old "pink" drawbridge).

It's now on or "must return" list when we are in the area...

Giant Burger in Rhome, Texas

#1 Cheeseburger with a large diet coke... The best...

Of course I have it cut in half and my husband and I share it. We can not finish one by our self....

I am a hamburger person. I go for a hamburger in just about any restaurant I go to... if they offer one ... so I know what a good one is and "Giant Burger in Rhome, Texas is probably my favorite in the area, although Tommy's on Camp Bowie, in Fort Worth is close.

Last Trip

Deep into the city of Detroit. Always great to have my Garmin gps. Even though I have not used it, my cellphone gps is a great backup in case of a Garmin failure.

Pearl Harbor to Waikiki

Not a very exciting trip -- expensive but not exciting

New front brakes on the mini (metal on metal on the front right; the wear sensor is on the front left, of course), then a new battery.

I do have greater confidence of completing my trip down to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks to celebrate my dad's 99th birthday.

Death Valley day trip

Met with friends in Las Vegas and made a day trip to Death Valley from there. Had some problems with GPS, but later found out why on this board. Fixed it. My 1450 came in handy. Friends had a 1450 also and we could compare the two. I think I had the edge. (POI factory)

Work

As I often do, I used my nüvi 760 yesterday to travel to one of the offices I support. I didn't need the GPS function to get there or back again but I did listen to an audible.com book while driving. I love the old 760. smile

This is a new way to make more money.?????

windmill

Used the 550 to go to Ocala NF last week. The 2497 does better at point and shoot.

Western NY To Kingsport TN and Back

We did a 1400+ mile round trip to TN last week and spent the better part of the week running around the Tri-City area. Was first big trip with new 2689LMT. Other than even after a week of use I still can't find things because of the UI change from my old 2460 we liked the new unit. Was surprised how seldom the traffic warnings were available.

One problem with the 2689 that may require an exchange, several times the unit went dim after a power cycle when making rest stops, I needed to go to brightness and change in either direction to have it pop back on.
