No more Mapquest route transfer to Garmin?

I was helping a user over on the Garmin software forums who didn't like BaseCamp but wanted to send a route to her nuvi. I suggested Mapquest and she was happy that it worked yesterday. But trying it today, she didn't get the option to send to GPS. So I checked, and sure enough that option in MapQuest appears to be gone. I also noted the TomTom copyrght at the bottom of the Mapquest map display.

Anyway, it appears MapQuest may have gone the same way as Google in eliminating transfer to Garmin. Has anyone else noticed this?

Found this under help for MapQuest.

What Happened to Send to Garmin?

Friends,

Due to the fact that most modern web browsers are moving toward a plugin-free web browsing experience, MapQuest is no longer able to offer a Send to Garmin feature.

Have no fear, though! We've got a great alternative for your on-the-go navigation needs in our turn-by-turn, voice-guided, traffic-sensing navigation app for iOS, Android, and Amazon smartphones! Did we mention that it's totally free?

Another case.

Another case where Garmin is now the competitor instead of the partner. Their reason for not supporting Garmin routes is bogus. The plugin is not needed. All they need to do is generate the GPX file and let the user select the download location. I have no interest in thier app as it does nothing to help me navigate with my nuvi. I guess I am done with the Mapquest site. As far as an online mapping and route planning goes, Google Maps is better. So if I use a site that isn't compatible with my Garmin, it won't be Mapquest.

Charlie, you may want to put a note at the top of your FAQ that the route transfer from Mapquest is no longer supported.

Will modify FAQ

I plan to make a change to the FAQ as a result of this change.

Sure will miss this feature. I used it a lot.

Sad.

Yeah! Me too. I hate to see it go. I think I will take another look at some of the conversion utilities that will take routes from Google maps and turn them into GPX files.

Panic

I used this feature almost exclusively and now that travel season is here again, I'm at a loss. Any luck with the conversion utilities for Google to GPX?
Thanks!

Google to GPX

I have in the past (not recently) successfully used this utility:

Overall, my goal was to have the Garmin GPS on my bike handlebar (Edge 705) display a line that I could follow--no navigation features and *no* rerouting. This utility helped me do that. I don't really know how it would be for more sophisticated applications.

Have You Tried This?
