After

After installation I find that how they appear to have fixed the re-install issue is to present you with the same screen you'd get if a new map update was available. So now instead of getting a message saying there are no updates available and offering to re-install the current maps, with no option but to put them on the attached GPS, we get a screen indicating that a NEW update is available, BUT it's really just the current map 2015.30. That's not really an update if you already have 2015.30 on your device, but by treating it as one, Garmin has been able to provide the install options because they always were available on a new update screen.

Not sure if this was a smart solution or lazy programming but if it fixes the re-install issue, who cares. smile

Not quite the way it is on my version.

Rick, I posted this over on that other "passion"ate forum but will put it here too smile

After updating, my main screen says "You're up to date.", then under the listed map version, it has the button for "Map Options". If I select that I get two choices, "Reinstall map" and "Install to Computer". I still can't find an option to install a reduced region on a reinstall if you originally installed the full continent. This "fix" is better than what we had in 4.0.8.0, but why can't they just include all the map options like the old version did? And while I am complaining, I don't understand why they can't include the option to install to SD, even if Express "thinks" there is room on internal storage. It should be the user's choice.

GE did not show update

If it wasn't for your post, I would not have known. I am updating now.

GE 4.0.11.0

I was unable to download the new GE. The Garmin download site that I tried did not provide the new version.

Is there a download link that always provides the latest version of GE?

GE

Bring up GE. Then while in GE, click on the cog wheel at top of screen. That will bring up 'settings' and 'about'. You should see 'check for updates'. That will let you download the latest GE.

Internal updater fails again

That doesn't solve the problem some of us are having with the Garmin Express internal updater not working properly. In the past couple versions of Garmin Express the internal updater fails when the Proxy Server setting for the application is set to Auto. Normally setting the Proxy Server to Off would allow Garmin Express to update. Not with 4.0.8.0. Nothing I've tried will get the internal updater to update, always throws the "Failed" message after it appears to finish downloading the update.

Edit to add: The following direct download link for GarminExpressInstaller.exe from the 4.0.8.0 thread works for downloading the 4.0.11.0 version.

I've been having this issue for the last 3 or 4 updates. It used to work flawlessly, but now????

The opposite

maddog67 wrote:

Just to throw a money wrench in the mess, my results are exactly the opposite. More than a month or two or three ago, the internal updater never worked. For at least the past couple/several updates, the internal updater works for me even though nothing that I know of has changed with my PC.

I've given up trying to figure these things out with Garmin software.

I have decided that now that GE matured to a point that I'm going to try to use it first for my map updates and possibly for software updates as well. We'll see how long this works for me and if I need to revert to GarminMapUpdater and WebUpdater.

Fingers crossed...

all is well

so far just updated, I guess we don't get no map update but we get GE updated I wonder how many updates we get before we get a map update lol

Sweet!

Thank You!

maybe that's the up to 4

maybe that's the up to 4 updates a year that was changed!! grin!

Updating GE as I type!

Thanks for the info.

Updates

Is it just me or is GE updated more often than the maps and firmware? Why is that?

I've been using GE for quite a while now and never had a problem. Would prefer to have firmware improvements (new features) and more timely maps (I realize the map updates are from a third party).

Just my two cents...

Thanks for the update!

Garmin Express leads you through updates and other tasks with a step-by-step process, with clear status notifications along the way.
Each device dashboard offers relevant menu options, based on device type (automotive, fitness, etc.), making it easy to find what you need.

@Sixeye,

Here on poi-factory, we are mostly interested in the "On the Road" line of Garmin products. If you look at their Annual Statement, you will find that they track revenue and income by several lines, namely:
Automotive
Aviation
Fitness
Marine
Outdoor.

Garmin Express is trying to serve them all.

The changes made recently mostly relate to other than "On the Road" products. I hope this information helps to understand why there seem to be so many updates to GE.

GE Updates

Hello Jbees60:

Thank you for your specific answer to my post.

Your GE Update link worked without problems.

For future updates will this link work? If not, where do we locate the proper link?

Thank You!

4.0.11.0 No option to install reduced map region

I just completed the CN NA 2015.40 map update using Garmin Express 4.0.11.0. One of the things I noticed is that I can not find the option in Express to install a reduced region of the map (lower 49 states for example). Maybe this option is there if you have insufficient space on your device for the full map, but since I use cloned copies of my device to install the map update, there is always plenty of room for the full map.

Garmin should put this option back into Express. There may be situations besides space limitations when a user would want to install a reduced region of the map.

Just finished....

updating from v3.2.29.0 to v4.0.11.0.

Clicked on the cog wheel at top of screen in GE. Went settings>about and then 'check for updates'. This downloaded the latest version. Install went fine on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system.

Seems like it takes a few more clicks to find information now. Oh well. Now it's time to go see how the new version of GE does with the latest map update smile

An update to 4.0.13.0 is out.

4.0.17.0

I just checked my GE and I have version 4.0.17.0. Seems like quite a few updates in a short period of time.

Yes

Yes, but remember that GE is used for GPS units as well as watches, and all kinds of other devices so these changes often don't have anything to do with using GE and your Nuvi.
