BMP sizes for new Garmins with higher resolution Screens?

Our new 2689 has a higher resolution screen than the 660 does.
Therefore, the BMP files look physically smaller on the 2689 than 660...

Can't find information on this in manual... Does the 2689 or other Higher Resolution Screens have the same POI BMP image size limitations as the 660, or can these BMP's be Rendered larger so they would appear the same size on the Higher Resolution Screens as the did on the 660 sized screens?

Answer: YES you can

My 3597 has the same problem - older BMPs that have been uploaded here are really small on the 3597 screen. (24 X 24 ?)

Not sure where I originally read this, but a 48 X 48 BMP works and is almost as big as the icons already in the maps. The icon at the Bank of America POI file page is a 48 X 48 icon.

Don't think older Garmins will handle that size.

There are a couple of threads here discussing this:

BMP files do not "Size up" very well. It's better to "Downsize". Using a BMP or GIF file from a website is one way, but you are probably violating a copyright or trademark law.

Is the limit for BMP sizes

Is the limit for BMP sizes on large resolution screens then 48x48??

There are a few POI's that can remain the same (Small) size, but there are some I use more often that I'd like to display bigger....

With more horsepower in the new unit, why not???

BMPsize

I use 48x48 for most icons on my 3597 but a few that are not that "important" 36x36.

Yes, dogcutler, dual sized

Yes, dogcutler, dual sized Icons is my plan too...

I just did a test with Red Light Camera Stop&Go bmp file.... It's symmetrical enough that a re-render in Photoshop wasn't half bad....I did two separate renders... one from 24x24 to 36x36, and then took the 36x36 up to 48x48.

Doesn't work for Cracker Barrel or Rest Areas (Text) Icons, though sad!

The

The other thing to consider is the .bmp needs to be saved in 256 color only. This could be the reason your having a problem with some icons and not others.

Common Sense - Denser Screen Smaller Images

48 x 48 is smaller on a denser screen

After contacting others with

After contacting others with more Photoshop background than I (Engineer, not Artist) I was unable to find a good method of increasing small Icons to Larger without severe Pixelation...

With One Exception: The StopLight Red/Yellow/Green Icon for Red Light Cameras was symmetrical enough that it did not suffer greatly, and so I replaced a 48x48 version in the 2689 Poi's, and tried it yesterday.... I'm very pleased with those results...

I'm not artistic enough to create any 48x48 icons from scratch...

In Photoshop I imported the 24x24 icon
selected Image
Image Size
Changed size from 24 to 48
and then saved to a new name....

This worked acceptably for a stoplight, but text and other graphics suffered in the size change...

Has anyone owning a Garmin with the 8" (1280x800) display tried to load a POI with a size larger than 48x48 (like maybe 64x64)?
