Garmin Nuvi 3597 And MapSource

I connected my Garmin Nuvi 3597 to my computer and tried to use MapSource, but I had no luck. The cable is good because I was able to use Garmin Express. I recall reading something about Garmin MapSource in the past. Is the Garmin 3597 not compatible with MapSource? Do I have to use Garmin BaseCamp now?

You need to use BaseCamp.

Use Basecamp

Yes you have to use basecamp now. Mapsource no longer supports accessing the newer Garmin Nuvi's.

What

What are you attempting to do? I just attached my 3597 to my computer and downloaded 415 waypoints and 11 routes into Mapsource, using the Receive from Device function. Seems to be working fine for me.

I have the Nuvi in Mass Storage (USB) mode. Could the problem be that you have your device in, the default, MTP mode. Not sure why that would be an issue for Mapsource but it's something you could check.

MTP?

I used Mapsource to import and export my saved locations to nuvi 3597s and it went well.

Could it be that Mapsource wants devices to be in MS mode. I did switch from the default MTP mode to MS before doing the import/export.

Deleted dup - sorry

MapSource hasn't been updated in years & knows nothing of MTP mode, that's likely why it worked by switching the nuvi to USB mass storage mode.

Thank you for the replies everybody. Yes, I am sure that I was in the default MTP mode. How do I select the Mass Storage (USB) mode?

Garmin Nuvi 3597

I can not seem to get my garmin to turn on any more.

Mass storage

You

You can also press the speed indicator on the map screen to bring up the trip info screen. Press the Speed circle in the top center of the screen until the diagnostic page appears. Scroll down to MTP Settings, tap it and change the setting to mass storage.

Is the battery charged? To be sure, use a computer's USB port with the cable to the 3597 and let it charge overnight making sure that the USB port doesn't go to sleep—or using the cigarette lighter cord in a vehicle, let it charge for a couple hours making sure the power source is live and that the fuse for the power source and cable are good.

If the nuvi doesn't turn on after a good charge, try a long several-second press of the nuvi's power button.

If it still doesn't start up, my first guess remains a weak battery due to a bad cable, blown fuse in the power source or cable, etc.

If you don't plan to use your nuvi 3597 for a long while, be sure to turn it off. The standard quick press of the power button only puts the 3597 to sleep so for a real power down, hold the power button until you see a screen asking if your really want to turn it off.

Good luck.
