Nuvi 3597 route calculation miracle

Nuvis learn over time. We all know they don't grab onto our preferred, local routes. I have a 3597. Not sure if it has this skill set.

I think Mytrends have already kicked in that is why it starts prompting for home when I am driving in the evening for the longest time. This is the first time i picked up exact route I make every evening and ignore Nuvi's route. I will see what happens tomorrow.

In the morning, my 3597 prompts me for the store I use as an address for work. In the afternoon it suggests Home.

Delete all the "Tracks" and it will have to re-learn your "habits".

There is no problem about it prompting me for my destinations in the morning and evening. it always does but it did not pick its own route rather it picked the route I use in the evening. That part was surprising. It never did before.

That's great that Nuvis learn. I hope mine learns my preferred routes as well.

other mention here would be clearing travel history also wipes out the myTrends data forcing the process to re-start/re-learn.

What is the myTrends feature and how does it work?

The myTrends feature is available on select Garmin products. When you travel regularly to saved destinations, your device will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it. Your device will provide a predicted route which will display in the information bar at the top of the map screen. myTrends provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information in the information bar.

Please note: myTrends is a feature that does not work out of the box when you first begin using your device. In order to effectively use the myTrends feature you must meet the following requirements before myTrends will display arrival and relevant traffic information:

Your frequent destinations must be saved in Favorites or Saved on your device, i.e. Home, Work, etc.
A regular pattern of driving habits must be established before myTrends will display on your device:
Daily regular pattern of driving takes at least three days of usage
Weekly regular pattern of driving such as a different destination on different days would take 2-3 weeks of regular usage

Press the information bar at the top of the map screen in order to display alternative routes if one is available. Here you can press Go! to activate a route to your myTrends destination:

Once you press Go! the device will begin providing turn by turn directions to your destination.

It was day wonder only. Yesterday it navigated me back to my home via its own route and did not following my usual route as it did previous day. I hope it works the way it worked couple of days ago.

TrafficTrends, if enabled on your nuvi, will use historical traffic data and could alter your route if your travel home can be on different days of the week or at different times of day. From Garmin:

Then, too, if your avoidances include traffic (and if your traffic receiver can get traffic data for you between work and home), you may have been redirected to the alternate route one day due to a traffic concern.

Or...it may just be an idiosyncrasy with Garmin routing

Once you set the destination did you Press the information bar at the top of the map screen? To see if it displayed a alternative route ?Here you can press Go! to activate a route to your myTrends destination:

My 2597 use to try to route 1/2 mile farther down the road then where I usually turned.Where I turn was a straight shot to my home.No traffic and one traffic light with 45 mph limit. GPS was 1/2 farther down the road and two right turns same speed limit and four traffic lights.It now routes me the way I prefer.

Most of my short trips to new areas I take my preferred road to exit and return.So the My Trends must have kicked in.

Looks like it is working for you. Unfortunately, it is not doing the same for me.
Sometimes, I select Go Home from Subway Station parking lot and it routes my way to my home as per its own calculation.

Some days, like last few days, I start driving on the road from parking lot and then it starts showing Time to Home on top information bar. I touch this bar and it calculates the route, most of the times there is only one option. I touch it and it starts the navigation. But I always change my route to avoid traffic. It was only two days ago when it followed my preferred route. Yesterday, I did the same thing but did not follow my route anymore. Theoretically, it should be following my preferred route but it does not do it.

Like CraigW posted the traffic or traffic trends may have a bearing on the route. Continue to force the route until you build up some history and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to remove traffic trends today for experimentation and see what happens..

Well, I am back after experimenting with it a bit.
I erased all data and started all over again. I did not check traffic trends this time but kept my trends ON. It is still not picking up my preferred route. So it did only one day otherwise it is completely ignoring the route I take everyday to avoid traffic.
