There was a time when a mailbox poi file would be extremely hard to do because of the amount of boxes out there. We used to have one a every few blocks he in the Phila., PA area, now were lucky there's still one outside the post office itself.

Major updating problem

The fewer mailboxes, you would think, the easier it would be to create a POI file. But no, the removal of existing mailboxes will continue making updating the POI file a major problem.

Webpage

There is this webpage, I've never validated the locations in it though.

not accurate

I checked my immediate neighborhood and it is not accurate.

I usually flag down the drivers

If postage is on the package or envelope, anyone in an official vehicle can accept the package. I have done this with the USPS, UPS and FedEx. Also the mail rooms in your places of business will (or rather may) take the prepaid packages and send them out for you. Many libraries used to have PO boxes in their vicinity. Not sure if that still holds true.

I just checked my town and this page shows boxes that no longer exist...

I then went to the source:
https://tools.usps.com/go/POLocatorAction.action

I selected Collection Boxes from the pull down menu, This one was accurate, but there is a big gotcha. The addresses on the map are correct, but the displayed location pins are not even on the right streets. USPS offers an app for at least iOS and it has the same failing. If the Post Office can't publish accurate locations of their Blue Boxes, it would be an incredible challenge for one of us to take on that task and as others have already mentioned this would be a headache to keep current as I doubt the Post Office provides a list of what boxes are sent to Blue Box Heaven.

Mail box map

I checked my area in NY & FL. the one in NY was right but the one in FL was missing a few.
The good thing about this site is you can add a new box or remove a missing one.

Sad but true, I looked up my local PO and the pin was a block away on a different street on the map, info address correct though, as mentioned.
