Are there any hints when CN NA 2015.10 will be released? I have some relatives' Nuvis temporarily so it is a good opportunity to update the maps for them.
If the new version is coming out in the next week or so, I will hold off to update to the latest version, but if won't come out until late May, I will just update them to the version that was released in February.

According to another popular forum who has been keeping track of the actual map release dates since ~CN NA 2010.10, the next predicted release date is May 28, 2014 for CN NA 2015.10. Note that this date refers to the North American map only.

I haven't even updated the last one yet.
I have high hopes on this one
There are a *lot* of updates in my area on this map update. I hope it gets updated before I drive from NC to Denver in mid May! It will be cutting it close, that's for sure!
I am waiting on that too...

Google "gps review .net" (or remove the spaces )
Find the Garmin nuvi forum. It's a sticky in that forum and is updated by the site admin at every map update.

Map release predictions.
Realize however that the predicted date in that forum is just Tim's (forum manager) expert opinion on when an update will be released. As far as I know, Tim does not have "inside information" from Garmin about the release dates, and there have been instances when the extimated date on that forum has been off by a couple of weeks or more. That said, it is still a great resource for giving an estimated date for a NA map release.

Thanks for the responses! I didn't think that they had a release date set, but I know some folks here have pretty good intuition about Garmin's next moves. I'm going to update the Nuvis that I have now and if the next release happens soon, I will update any relatives' nuvi that I still have. I am the designated person for doing tech things and it's easier to do it all at once.
gpsreview.com is a great site too, although perhaps not quite as friendly as here at POI Factory.

Don't know what we would do without jgermann and a lot of others here on the factory. We have so many like jgermann who are always there to help us and this takes a lot of work for them.
Thanks to everyone on here that help each other.

@mgarledge, thanks for those comments.
Before I first joined the site, I was planning several trips to locations I did not know. I wanted to know how to accomplish several things that I was sure my 765 would be able to do - particularly to have accurate POIs for places I might need.
As most know, there are several other sites dedicated to GPS units and these all discuss how to accomplish specific tasks. I looked at many of them but found they were very hard to navigate when looking for specific information.
I got to poi-factory because many places (including Garmin itself) specifically direct people to our site
http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/poiloader/custom_poi_sources
What I immediately discovered was that this site is easy to navigate, easiest of all to read, and had polite, helpful members. I read thru all the FAQs and found out things I could do that I never imagined were possible.
Helping is my way of saying thanks to all those who helped me.

Silly Question
Garmin's version numbering scheme is wacky.
Silly question here, but has anyone complained about this on Garmin's forums?
Garmin's internal version number should be used instead of the year. For example, 2014.40 is actually version 17.40 of the North America map. 2015.10 would be version 18.10 and should be marketed as City Navigator North America NT v.18.10.

Silly question here, but has anyone complained about this on Garmin's forums?
Not silly but it's been a sore spot with many of us users for many years now. Although it's not a very big deal at all, it causes confusion, especially to those new users who are new to Garmin's map updates and wacky numbering scheme. This numbering makes no logical sense...I suppose the same guys at Garmin that came up with this map numbering scheme are also responsible for the Garmin Feature (Dart)Board that they use with each new series to pick which features to add/drop (& throw back into the feature pool to be reused/rehashed later). It seems to work well for Garmin...nevermind the end-user.

There really isn't a forum on the Garmin site for discussing map releases. You might get by posting in the Garmin Express forum or the Installing and Updating Maps forum. It doesn't hurt to try, but don't be surprised if the moderators quickly cut you off as not being on topic.

Not that I expect much of a reply, but this is what I just sent to Garmin regarding the date code of the maps.
"The present numbering scheme is out of sync with the calendar and it really needs to be fixed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understand the numbering scheme correctly, this number is telling us that this the fourth map update of the 2014 map set? This makes little sense and causes confusion to the average user, because we are in the second quarter of 2014, and the upcoming map should be numbered 2014.20, not 2015.10. In other words, your numbering scheme is running about six months ahead of where it actually should be. I believe this to be a problem, and is what I mean by the numbering scheme being out of sync. As a service to your end users, your map numbering scheme should correspond to the year and should correspond to the quarter in which it's released. For example, 2014.10 would be the first quarter map update of 2014, 2014.20 the second, and so on. 2015.10 would be the first quarter update of that year while 2015.20 would be the second.
Now that I've described how your map numbering is out of sync, how do you fix it? The easiest way to go is simply to rename the upcoming 2015.10 map as 2014.41, followed by 2014.42 and 2014.43. Doing this will sync both the year and the quarter, so that 2015.10 can be released in the first quarter of 2015, as it should be."

That's an excellent way to fix it but be careful, they may "steal" your idea on how to fix the numbering...

Read the Terms of Use, especially points 3 & 4.
In this case however, I believe it would be fine no matter how they got the idea, just as long as it's fixed.

I usually wait for a few weeks and check POI Factory for user reaction to new releases before updating - just in case of bugs.

If you talk to this source again, can you ask them why my traffic icon is green even when the traffic cable isn't connected to my 2595? Seems like it could be a possible bug, but what do I know...
