TomTom map numbering isn't any way better nor logical than Garmins

Leaving on a week long road trip this weekend, I don’t think I will update the maps before then, but definitely the red light and speed camera POI's

Well, now we know why Garmin numbers their maps in such an irritating manner: it's all based on the fiscal year.

This means we'll never see the damn system fixed.

I guess the guy who responded to you doesn't read Garmin's own stockholder reports ... in this one they identify the 2012 fiscal year as ending on Dec. 29, 2012: http://www8.garmin.com/aboutGarmin/invRelations/reports/2013...

Also, if you read the "Newsroom" blog on Garmin's web site you will see a recent article where they identify Q1 2014 as ending on Mar. 29, 2014. I have a feeling this guy just made up an answer.

Agree! And I'm still trying to figure out this: "Please keep in mind that the fiscal quarter starts the previous year and ends about halfway through the following year..."

It's about time to cycle to 'other' SD card!
(I alternate between 2 SD Cards, so that if I encounter something unusual, I can jump back to previous version and try that.....

@alandb: I figured it was a blow-off answer, which is why I asked him how it benefits end users to use the fiscal year. I politely explained to him that from a marketing standpoint this makes no sense. Especially as each map has an internal version number which can be viewed on the "Manage Map Products" screen of BaseCamp.

The upshot here is that if the fiscal year was so important to Garmin, they could use the internal version number to track the maps for bean counter purposes and STILL change the numbering for the benefit of end users.

That said, I want to thank you for the link. I'm sure that will be useful the next time I reply to Garmin.

Regarding the map itself, there are certain less than reputable outlets that already have 2015.10 available. Obviously I won't provide links, but if they have the map already I predict we'll see the map next week at the latest.

I hate to break the news to the group, but VW is releasing the 2015 Golf in July of this year, and Ford should have the 2015 Mustang available later in 2014 as well....

Admittedly, the year itself is minor. But numbering the updates so that the .10 update happens in the 1st quarter of the year isn't.

Toyota just announced their 2014.5 Camry. There have been other half year vehicles as well.

To the fiscal year ... ending mid year vs Dec 29. This is generally the type of support I get from Garmin. Better to rely on help here at POI Factory!!!

Probably not since Garmin Support isn't open on the weekends and I doubt they would release a map update and then be closed immediately for 2 days.

Since January 2009, the maps have been released every quarter on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, most often on Wednesday.

Probably not this week, we only on page 2.

Nah, Garmin's promptness has nothing to do with it. They've never promised us an exact schedule - they come out with new maps four times a year. It's we the people (of the GPS world) who are champing at the bit.

Garmin does not have a date set in the year to revise the maps, so it is like a present you are waiting in the mail. Sometimes the mail is late....lol so it is fun to wait, if you need to use the gps on a trip you can rely on the last version.

That everyone is so excited about it? I have found little changes here and there but nothing major. Maybe it is just the desire for the newest and best.

Well a toll road I have been using for 2 years in Mexico has made it into the last Garmin update. Up until then the annoying "Please follow the highlighted route"!!!

...on Here.com that an interstate exchange has the new routes on it. (They took out the cloverleafs and are making it a diamond style interchange.) I just wonder if it will be on the new map coming out or if we will have to wait until the end of summer to see the change. Just wondering!!!

Is there much real change from version to version.I could sort of understand if you're paying for each upgrade. No reason to pay for an upgrade just before a new update is available. or Just before the deadline for a complimentary upgrade. Don't most of us have lifetime upgrades?

While the road construction an changes may not be significant in the areas you travel they are when taken as a whole. There are over 4 million miles of roadway in the US so just how much change are you going to see? I'll wager the answer would be less than 0ne thousands of a percent of that change. The biggest chang you might notice are the things that don't show, such as updated speed limits, school zones and even some POI.
