Help with 1450 JCV's

I updated to 2014.30 it downloaded the map files to the SD card the JCV showed 0 bites, I change the JCV to VCVX anyway.

I then downloaded D3060090.JCV @756 MB to the folder Garmin in the SD card the strange thing is the JV background is generic and not like DXXX80? my last JCV file, in addition it acts like the small file and does not show JV at the locations it used to and kind of acts like it is the small file.

I downloaded D3060120A.JCV @786MB renamed the 90 file and still have the same background and missing JV's like the small file.

In other words 80 had all my JV's 90 and 120 both work but not the same as 80.

I am surprised both JCV's work as they should be tagged to the map update.

What I want is the new JV's to show all the exits that were on the 80 file.

Hope this makes sense!

Do you see your nuvi's .system folder?

Unless something very odd or very new is going on, you are correct in thinking that jcv files designed for one version of City Navigator will not work with other versions of City Nav. Your stating that you see a 0 KB jcv file on the SD card that came with the map update is also troubling.

If your nuvi has more than City Navigator North America on it (e.g., City Nav Europe), let us know before proceeding. Also, if you've ever added Supplemental Maps before, let us know; e.g., if you installed a partial earlier map version (2014.20 Lower 48 states, then used MapInstall to manually add the rest of North America).

The correct large full-screen jcv file for 2014.30 is the 120A file.

My first guess that explains your odd results is having another jcv file active that you're not aware of.

I believe the 1450 has a .system folder. When connected to your computer, do you see your nuvi's internal .system folder and its contents? If so, look in the nuvi's /.system/jcv folder and see if there's a small jcv file. If so, and if you're trying to get the large (120A) jcv file manually loaded to your SD card to be the active file, the smaller one on the nuvi will need to be moved or renamed.

My 1450

I have the map on the SD card. On my 1450 I have the D3060120A.JCV file in the System>JCV folder.
All the views are the same as 2014.20 map.
I delete the small JCV file that comes with the map before I download the large file.
EDIT: Craig types fast.

My earlier version was a

My earlier version was a partial map download but never modified.

The JCV file in the system folder was renamed before I started the new 90 or 120 JCV.

My 1st thought was the small system JCV file I did not delete it but did change name even though it had 0 bytes.

However; I do have enough space in the 1450 to move the 120 off the SD and was considering this.

FIXED

BOY DO I FEEL DUMB.

Somehow I ended up with the jcv in the system folder with the small 80(renamed) & 120 I also had another folder label jcv (empty)in the 1450 and a Garmin folder in the SD with a JCV 90 large (relabled) and the 120.

The entire time the small 120 jcv file in the system folder was being used.

I now have the 120 in the sd being used for the JV.

Thanks for the help I am a happy guy once again.

Does JCV Automatically Download With Map Update?

I updated my NUVI2555LMT with Map Updater. I always assumed, that JCV would update at the same time.

I'm a bit confused by this discussion. Is it necessary to download JCV separately? Do I use Map Updater, if that's the case? I refuse to use Garmin Express, after all of the complaints that you hear about it.

update

Yes it is automatic some of the older units lacked enough memory in the unit to download the larger JCV file so a "small" JCV file was sent with the update.

If you want the large file you had to download a JCV file to an SD card so it required an SD card and 2 downloads to get the full JCV file.

Your unit has a larger internal memory so you do not have to do anything.

Clear The Confusion

MapUpdater will install the proper JCV file with each map update for that particular map.
The 2555 will use the smaller sized split screen by default. Some users prefer the Full Screen that would have to be downloaded separately.
Both split & full view have the same amount of JCV files, the full screen is larger since the graphics are larger.

The disadvantage of using the full screen is that it takes up more memory and only remains on for a few seconds. The split screen remains on until you pass the junction.

Thanks garry1p and muell9k

Thanks garry1p and muell9k.

Glad to know that.

I haven't used the full screen, but I like the split screen as it is.
