Speed Cameras - Alert by Distance?

There are 2 options to load speed camera alerts - Speed or Distance. Will I still get alerted on Garmin if I load by distance rather than speed? I would like to know when I'm coming up to one. I have a Garmin 2360LMT.

Yes

If you load the Speed Camera POIs manually with POI Loader you can set alert for a distance and will get a "ding" and a banner at that distance. Or you also can add a .wav file (such as: Speed Camera ahead) to warn you at the distance you set.
I happen to set my distance to 2500 ft. but I think the default distance is around 1969 ft.

I was going to say that.

I was going to say that. Just follow mrkrnfl's instructions.

if you are using

If you are using POI-Factory's file, it has a speed alert built in. The distance from the light the alert triggers depends on your speed. According to POI Loader, the distance is 36 seconds before you would reach the coordinates. That translates to a variable distance as it depends on your speed. If you are traveling above the alert speed, the alert keeps repeating until you are at the speed or below.

...

Maybe it's my area, but I NEVER got the speed camera alerts even when it's set to "distance."

Use Extra POI Editor

I would open the Speed Camera File in EPE.

Go to Edit-Replace Field and then scroll down to Proximity. Click Replace All and then put in the Prox alert distance. This will put the prox alert into all the files and then when you load in the future, you won’t have to specifically put the Prox Alert in via POI Loader. The file will load as any other file, except it will now include a Prox Alert.

It saves that annoying step of having to put in the Prox Alert, in POI Loader every time you load your files.

This works with any file that you want Prox Alerts, like Rest Areas, etc.

Thx - I am missing

Thx - I am missing something...
I went thru the process but it did not add any columns or data.

Apparently, there needs to be another column in the CSV file to hold the proximity info. Where can I find info on column names and format?

thx
bill

Convert to GPX

If this relates to using EPE, then you have to convert the file to gpx, using EPE. This will allow you to add things like the distance alert.

I'll chalk this up to a Senior's Moment. I know there's more than me, in this forum, who can use that excuse. LOL

You can't store distance or proximity information in a CSV file. The closest you can come is a speed alert. Proximity can only be added by doing a manual load in POI Loader or by converting and saving the file as a GPX.

He is right on.. I created my own .wav file to notify me when I approach red light cameras.

I don't change the settings

I just load the file with the POI Loader and don't do anything else. Mine seems to work as far as I can tell. Since I generally try to avoid the cameras, it seldom goes off, but it has warned me a few times and I was able to turn off before I got to the camera.

Me too!

Mine says: "Caution, potential government theft ahead." I tried to make it funny but also professional enough that I don't have to worry if someone is in the car with me. Everyone that's heard it has chuckled.
