More eyes on the street: D.C. adds 130 enforcement cameras

The Metropolitan Police Department has new eyes on streets: More than 130 new traffic cameras have been set up in the District and they go live on Saturday.
The devices will uniquely capture infractions like "blocking the box" at intersections, speeding, driving through crosswalks and having oversized and overweight vehicles in neighborhoods. From: http://www.wtop.com/109/3511270/130-new-cameras-patrolling-D...

have these now been added to the red light cams file?

They are not just RLC's.

Need to figure out which ones are the RLC's.

Looks like some of these

Looks like some of these cameras will be used for traffic violations other than RLC or speed.

The time might be coming to think of a 3rd file for these other Ticket cameras.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

They have been added.

Since we haven't seen too many of these in other areas, we've kept them with the main file under RLC's. In the short description that pops up on your GPS we've indicated if it is a stop sign or a box, rather than an actual RLC.

Did not know that. Thanks.

thanks - at least for

thanks - at least for simplicity, i do think it makes sense to keep them within the RLC database.

if you aren't from DC, you might not have heard on the news that not all these cameras are issuing tickets yet, but it's only a matter of time.

Right

For certain, & one of the best reasons not to go into DC or spend money there.

I agree that it is a place to avoid.

Creepy cameras, better not become normal

Yet another reminder to never drive in the city. On those rare occasions I need to go somewhere downtown, Metro looks that much better as it would allow me to avoid these new cameras.

I really hope this new style of enforcement camera doesn't become normal.

Look for it to happen

Those folks in DC are always looking for ways to increase the revenue flow. Just look at what they are doing to the registered gun owners in DC. Just another way to increase revenue.

That is what it is about

The cameras are put in place by politicians... There is no leaving politics out of it.

assuming he was most likely referring to the comment regarding gun control. An enforcement camera thread is not the proper forum to discuss that political issue.

I think it is due to

I think it is due to football.

Chicago, New York, Washington and Dallas all have loosing football teams. Each city is in need of a winner so they are competing to see who can put up the most cameras by the end of 2014. Miami and LA opted out because they were too far behind at the beginning.
