Out of Business

Yesterday I used my Garmin to try to locate 4 different businesses in Ocala, FL that were in its internal database. All 4 were no longer at their identified addresses. I hope the new 2014.3 fixes some of these errors. It was getting comical driving around.

@EV Driver

Don't count on it. I don't think Garmin is doing any kind of verification of POIs. They probably get them in bulk from something like phone company. On other forum, about European maps, I read quite few times that in never map version POIs were duplicated, pointed to no longer existing businesses, had wrong locations. Generally built-in POIs aren't best - gently speaking. Unless they are pointing to places that exist for a long time (like gas stations, hotels, big restaurants, stores, etc.). For small business it's better to use POI's from places like this site. They will be more accurate, both time and place wise.

It's been uploaded onto their servers

2014.3

It's the convoluted logic Garmin uses for numbering the map releases.

It would make too much sense for any updates released in 2013 to start with 2013 and then the release number AFTER the year then the decimal point.

About 400 other places. Just type my call into Google.. https://www.google.com/search?q=n9mxq&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t...

Want to see where my car is? Google N9MXQ-7 or click http://aprs.fi/#!mt=roadmap&z=11&call=a%2FN9MXQ-7&timerange=3600&tail=3600 (You can watch me drive to work. Wheee)

I'm not hard to find. But for someone to put the street name up like that, well, it's kind of creepy, and mildly threatening..

You may want to consider changing your POI Factory user name...

n9mxq wrote:

Gene,

You are making way too much out of me putting up [only] your street name ('Douglas Court')! For one thing YOU have elected to use your Ham call sign (N9MXQ) as your POI Factory user name (not that there's anything wrong with doing that) - therefore (as you fully know) anyone on planet Earth can quickly and easily learn exactly what your station location (physical home) address is, including your exact coordinates.

Further, by me stating [only] the name of your street, it was my little way of hopefully letting you know that I too was also a Ham radio operator. But, oh no - instead of you picking up on the little clue you decided to stress that you were not impressed that I was able to figure out your street name. Well, hells-bells Gene!!!

Now you want to say that 'for someone to put the street name up' is 'creepy, and mildly threatening'. Geezle-peezle Gene! Please do not feel threatened by me... However, you may want to consider changing your POI Factory user name if you really feel threatened that someone can easily learn where you live - because, as YOU ALREADY KNOW, ANYONE CAN!!! razz
