Need help with new Gander Mtn. in Charlottesville, VA

There's a new Gander Mtn. store opening in Charlottesville, VA, on Oct.15th. I want to add that store to my Gander POI file but I'm not sure of the coordinates. When preparing a new POI, I use Google Earth to locate a business's drive or other entrance from the street as its location, but unfortunately, GE still shows an empty field where the new GM is.
I'd appreciate it if any of the folks here at the Factory who live in or near Charlottesville might swing by the new GM and provide me with the long/lat of the nearest entrance from street to the store. Thanks.

Umm, thanks for the information, phranc, but I already knew that. In Google Earth those coordinates point to an empty field. It will probably require a site visit to get the coordinates of the driveway to their parking lot.

Not

Not unusual for a location to show as an empty field in Google Maps or Earth. Those pictures aren't taken everyday. In my town they are about 2 years old now. smile

Here's how it works

The GIS coordinator will assign an address as soon as there are four corners of the footings laid. He goes to the site and he uses his handy dandy satellite receiver to mark the four corners of the footings. Then he goes back to the shop, down loads the data to his computer, and does some crunching.

The computer spits out a set of coordinates that indicate the center of the building, and that is how he assigns the address of the building.

So, since the street address has already been assigned, you can take those coordinates and put them in your POI file as the center of the building. Then you can drag that point where ever you need to for the location.

You can also go the GIS site for Charlottesville and enter the address and or coordinates and that map should show a location of the building represented by the location of the address number marker.

Go here, http://gisweb.albemarle.org/GISWeb/Welcome.aspx Type in 440 Gander Rd. to search and the map will show you the exact location of the building. It's in Albemarle County.

From the GIS map it appears as if the intersection of Gander Rd and Seminole Trail could be entered as 2033 E Seminole Trail. See what's returned for that.

One article says it will be a new building right across AMF Kegler's Lanes, between Carrsbrook Dr and Woodbrook Dr, and another right across Rio Hill Shopping Center.

Thanks for the advice, but...

Thanks, everybody, for the advice, but I'm very meticulous about my POI's and I want to use the location of the drive that leads from the street to the GM parking lot.
I'll probably end up just picking a spot and using its long/lat. Thanks, again.

Using those coordinates if anyone can't find the place and find their way into the parking lot when the store is built they should sell their GPS. If it were me I wouldn't add it to the POI until the store is open anyway.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

It's already there.

It's already there, and the link I gave him to the Albamarle GIS shows the building and how it located in realtion to Gander Rd. In fact it's at the end of Gander Rd. Once GPS turns you on Gander Rd it dead ends in the front of the store.

I don't konw why he would want to give it a location all the way out on Seminole Tr. You have to turn on Gander to get to it.

Now I understand

phranc, I'm unfamiliar with GIS so the first time I used it to look at the new Gander location, I missed the significance of what I was looking at. I looked again just now, and now I understand. Google Earth is my main tool, but I couldn't find Gander Rd. using it. GIS clearly shows it. Thanks.

Not In Database

Gander Rd hasn't made it into Basecamp or Google's data base yet. It's in the GIS database because it's updated locally.
