Craig and muell9K, thanks for all your help and for posting all the suggestions. I was doing all the correct steps as you guys mentioned.

Glad to hear you got it working. CraigW as always provided comprehensive possibilities of the failure.

Did the full screen working JCV file come from the link I provided? Did you use that same link previously to download the 3 corrupted file or was it different from my link?
The reason I ask is maybe something got corrupted in the previous 3 failing downloads is realated to your PC, or the site you went to had a defective JCV file.

Renaming JCV files

Quote:

That JCV file is for the 2014.20 map. Copy that file onto your SD card in the Garmin\JCV folder.
Next, on your Nuvi, rename the D3153110A.JCV to D3153110A.OLDJCV.
Reboot the Nuvi and try a simulation route to see if the Full View Junction view now works. If it does work you can delete the D3153110A.OLDJCV from the Nuvi or back it up first before deleting after renaming it back to D3153110A,JCV.
If it does NOT work, rename the file back to D3153110A,JCV. on the Nuvi, and remove the SD card. You should have a working Junction View, although a reduced one.

I tried it and it did not work on my 1490.
Since my map is on the SD card I had plenty of space on the 1490 so I had both JCV files on it.
I renamed the big file by changing the extension to JCC. I then simulated a route that would have me change interstates and then a parkway. The small file gave me a full screen view when changing Interstates but none when going on the parkway.
I then exchanged the extensions with the larger file and tried the route again but it did not work. I then moved the smaller file to a safe place on the computer and renamed the larger file with the smaller files name. I then simulated the same route and it worked and also gave me a full screen Junction View for the expressway.

After 3 years of waiting a missing road finally appears on the GPS maps. Thank you NavTeq for the speedy service.

Tried to download to C550 and unit now not loading...

With some of the problems before I tried uploading new maps to my C550 first. Launched express, found the unit and said update was available. Starting downloading and stopped saying there was an error.
Unit will now start up and goes to loading maps and shuts off. Tried reset button under front cover and hard rest by turning on and pressing lower left corner of screen. Neither solved the problem.

Try map updater. Its more stable

Unit doesn't even get to point....

where computer, express or updater see it. You turn it on and it gets to loading maps and freezes while hooked up to computer. If unplugged it turns off after reaching loading maps.
Unit was working fine before trying to update via express. After express unit will not operate.

Which updater did you use ?

How can we find out what roads have been updated? I have been driving to Dallas for years and they have new freeways around irvine and grapevine but my garmin always shows me driving in the field. I thought I updated 2 weeks ago but did not look at number.

I downloaded it once from the link you posted and once from a different forum on my home PC, both didn't work. I then downloaded it the 3rd time from your link from my work PC and loaded it on at work and it didn't work either. I downloaded it a 4th time from a different forum again and that file worked. I don't think it's a PC problem because I'm pretty computer literate and my computer runs 100%. I think there might have been a glitch somewhere on Garmin's server. All 3 links had the same address.

The latest map version is 2014.20 and was just released this past Wednesday, so if you updated a couple of weeks ago you no longer have the newest maps.

Garmin doesn't list what is updated between one map version and the next, probably because there would be hundreds of changes. You can go to Navteq.com (the makers of the maps for the Nuvi) and click on MapReporter. Register or login and then you can scroll around on the map to see if the roads you are interested in are shown there.

If they are, then either the newest version of maps for your Nuvi includes those roads or at the worst case, they will appear in the next release. If they don't appear, your at the right place to report this issue to Navteq.

Go here:

http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/mapgen/webmap.cgi?p=199688193...

then click the map and zoom in to see if your new roads appear. As you may expect, there's no list of all roads updated in the whole of North America when map updates come out.

Or you can give us a location and maybe someone here will be nice enough to check it out and report back.

IMG map files are all separate

Sense I heard that 2014.20 maps are released, I was kind of excided about it. I downloaded the map from website I'm not quite sure what name was it. Anyway, I successfully downloaded CN North America NT 2014.20 for my nuvi. I extract all files in that folder, but like previous versions of map, I can't see the folder it named City Navigator full North America. Files are all separate. I bought 4GB Toshiba SDHC card for 2014.10 update because full map didn't fit in internal memory. Is there anyway I could make these maps to full one single file. It's okay if can't because I just have to put USA/Canada map which I don't need all territories in North America.

You'll have to figure that out on your own. We don't support warez here, and you virtually admitted having an illegitimate copy in your post, based upon the fact you downloaded from a site OTHER than Garmin.

Lost British Daniel Voice with Update

Updated (successfully, I thought) my nuLink 1695 using Garmin Express. Somehow, I lost the British Daniel voice in the process. I and my family have grown to love the entertainment he provided with his accent and other idiosyncrasies exhibited by this fine Brit, ranging from his instructions to take "slip roads" to hilarious pronunciations of street names. Any suggestions as to how to get our buddy back?

.

Yep, don't use Garmin Express. Use the Map Updater.

Did you have a back up of your Garmin?

garmin express

As some have said, Garmin Express should work fine for newer Garmins. My 2360 (3 years old?) seems to work fine, so far. But I have my 2013 files backed up just in case...

Welcome Back British Daniel

I was able to rescue my voice buddy from the abyss. I went to mygarmin.com -> myDashboard and saw he still existed in the Voices section. All is good again. Actually, this is the first problem I've experienced with Garmin Express... a certain amount of "Lucky" so far, I guess.

Looking for a bit of assistance here ....

confused No problems getting map updates (I use Map Updater as Express is a piece of junk - even on the Mac) but here is my question:

I have 2 units --> a Nuvi 765T and a Nuvi 255WT. I usually update the 765 first and select to install the map update to the computer also (this part works perfectly). I also select to leave the installation files on the computer.

But I have never been able to use the saved installation files to update the maps on my second Nuvi, the 255WT without re-downloading the maps again. evil

What is the correct procedure ?? Thanks in advance.

Update

I updated both the new map and the large JCV file onto my 1450LMT using GE. I have run a lot today and there was no problem. So far, so good!

Just downloaded

Looked at the time when I started but don't know when it ended as I forgot to look while it was updating.
I came back to the computer in 1 1/2 hours and it was completed.

Used Garmin Map Updater and updated to unit and computer and all looks great.

Thanks for the info

For the previous poster that mentioned uninstalling GE until the next update - that really isn't required - just use http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/autoruns-portable and disable the startup entries and Service for GE.

That way you can still run it when desired, but it won't be always running.

Yay!

New map updates are like little presents.

new roads

Glad to see two key roads, for me that is, are included in this release. One near my house that I like to use, and two, is I-69 in southern Indiana. Very happy with this update.

Map Install did not show it available to me, so I used Garmin Express, and it worked flawlessly for me just as it did before.

An amazing update

For those traveling south from Page AZ, a real issue recently has been the slide on SR89 closing the highway between Page and Bitter Springs. Amazingly, the new 2014.20 has removed from their map this portion of SR89 and they also show the soon-to-open SR89T (Navajo 20):

Thanks for always alerting us to when there is a new update, it is much appreciated. Downloaded in about 11 to 12 minutes, but then the time comes when it installs.

Here's what I personally found when updating maps this go-round...

I have reverted to using a Mac for pretty much all my PC needs. I found that Garmin Express gave me zero issues when updating maps on my current units (765T, 3790LMT, 3490LMT). In the past, I have tried MapUpdater on the Mac which always errored out at somewhere around 70% (in past attempts) of the download process. Using Garmin Express gave no errors & no issues. However, for the life of me, I could NOT find the option to also install the downloaded maps for use on the PC within Basecamp using Garmin Express. I really don't think it's there because believe me, I looked.

OTOH, MapUpdater does have that option. So I ended up running the map update process 4 times; once for each GPS (using Garmin Express) to update their maps and once (using MapUpdater) to install the map onto the PC.

I have since been informed that Garmin Express (at least for the Mac) seems to only give the option to install the maps onto the PC if the device you are updating does not have enough room for the selected update. Garmin logic at it's finest! rolleyes

I haven't downloaded it yet, but will tonight. The last update corrected a road that I reported 2-3 yrs. ago. Glad to see they do update them albeit it takes awhile I guess for verification.

Just like Garmin said

I tried to update to 2014.20 last week with Garmin Express and had all the failures others have reported.

During the call to Garmin, the tech said that they were having some issues with 2014.20 what were being fixed. He expected the issues to be fixed by the end of the week and to try to update again about Tuesday.

This is Tuesday and Garmin Express finished the whole update in very short order. I don't know just how long it took because I let it do its work in the background. When I returned to Express, the message said my Dezl 760 was now up to date.

A check of the installed maps showed 2014.20 All.

Good Luck!
