2014.2

Updated both GPS's and also installed on 2 computers in about 1 1/2 hours.

Only problem I had, though it did not stop me from updating is that Map Updater 3.2.2 did not install properly and gave me an error message. Just ignored it and the downloads came down OK.

Garmin Express automatic?

I was under the impression that Express always runs in the background, and announces the availability of map updates. I saw today on this site that 2014.20 is available, but had not received this information from Express.

I connected my 1490T, via usb, and again expected Express to launch automatically. After about 5 minutes, I started Express manually. Only then did it load, and announce "update available".

I checked under Express "Settings", and "Launch Express when a Garmin device is plugged in" box is checked. What am I missing?

That

That Garmin Express has never worked properly. sad

and for map updates your better off using Garmin MapUpdater:

Not So

Not on mine. On mine it says newest is 2013.40

So

So only 2 map updates behind then.

Garmin Express Fail

I tried to use it, but no joy. sad Saw that there was a map update, so I checked GE. It said yes there is, so I told it to update the GPS and install maps on computer.

When it finished, I did not have an start menu shortcut to Basecamp anymore, but had 2 for GE one to "Express" and one to "Garmin Express."

Removed GE, Downloaded and re-installed Basecamp, updated GPS and computer with mapupdater. All good now, but wasted 2 hours. mad

It's some sort of .NET error. Did it happen on both PCs? You can find out more about the error in the SetupLog.txt file located in the %appdata%\Garmin\Map Update\ folder.

As in the past, you'll probably have better luck using Garmin MapUpdater and not Garmin Express. You can download MapUpdater from:

PC Version

http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

MAC version

Thanks for the MapUpdater link. Garmin Express failed for me on 3 different PCs (I've got a few to try out on my desk here at work smile ). When I used the link in your post, it worked flawlessly. Thanks!

Failed on GE

I have had generally good luck with GE since launch, but this map update has failed multiple times using GE. However, when I tried it on Map Updater it worked just fine.

The map itself in my area barely updated any roads and is still behind MapQuest which I don't understand.

No problems using MapUpdater.

Did see new Exit at MM 244 on I-55 in northern Illinois. About a year after the new exit was opened. Also MM 116 on I-80 Northern Illinois.(Par for the course.)

Problems with Garmin Express. It's being reported that if you phone Garmin Support there is a general message about problems with map updates not completely properly when using Garmin Express. According to the message they hope to have the problem corrected today.

I will most likely wait a few days on this one. This is the first update they have released that I am not looking for any specific corrections. Every problem I have reported over the last couple of years or have know about is fixed. At least from my perspective, 2014.20 should be like 2014.10 for my area.

If all possible at any cost. I try to avoid using applications that depend on either .NET or Java. These environments are used to create "quick and dirty" apps and typically will pull in lots of other unnecessary things when running. As the result, not just make your computer slow but also lots of errors.

Different this time !

The last 2 map updates for my 260 and 1490 went quite well using Garmin Express !
This time no soap !
Just would not complete installation on my 1490 or my "new" 2595 !
Re-downloaded MapUpdater and very easily installed 2014.2 on all three units ! Two of them on the SD card ! Large JCV file works on both the newer models !
Just got to have a bit of patience !

Glad to see more speed limits for Ottawa area - previously mainly on the 400-series highways. Now most of the major streets/roads seem to be included.

400-series speed limits bit of a waste - speed limit on all of the is 100KPH.

Help With JCV

I downloaded the 2014.20 map and the full JCV file posted here and tried to install it into a 1390T but cannot get it to work after screwing around with it for over 4hrs.

I'm using a microSD card and under the Garmin folder, I made a folder called JCV and copied file here. In the GPS in system\JCV, I deleted 3 files in there. Rebooted the GPS and ran a simulation in Atlanta, GA but cannot get the junction view to display anything. Is this the correct file or am I doing something wrong? I searched everywhere on the Garmin USA site for the full JCV download links and for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. Can someone tell me where they hide them? Thanks in advance.

Update: I reloaded the new map and it shows in system\JCV a file D3153110A.JCV at 24,992KB, a D3153110A.sum and a D1279020A.sum at 1KB.

Update: I reloaded the new map and it shows in system\JCV a file D3153110A.JCV at 24,992KB, a D3153110A.sum and a D1279020A.sum at 1KB.

For starters you can delete the two .sum files in your JCV folder, they are diagnostics files and are not needed. The 24,992KB file you have in your system\JCV folder is the small one.

You can download the large JCV file(775MB) file here:
http://download.garmin.com/support/2014_20/NA/JV/D3060110A.J...

That JCV file is for the 2014.20 map. Copy that file onto your SD card in the Garmin\JCV folder.
Next, on your Nuvi, rename the D3153110A.JCV to D3153110A.OLDJCV.

Reboot the Nuvi and try a simulation route to see if the Full View Junction view now works. If it does work you can delete the D3153110A.OLDJCV from the Nuvi or back it up first before deleting after renaming it back to D3153110A,JCV.

If it does NOT work, rename the file back to D3153110A,JCV. on the Nuvi, and remove the SD card. You should have a working Junction View, although a reduced one.

Map Updater

Updated my trusty old nuvi 660 and PC BaseCamp maps with no problem. For the last few updates, I've been installing maps to an SD card and renaming the files per the FAQ here. Plugging in the SD to my laptop's card reader is much faster than using the 660's slow USB 1.1 port.

Just have to update BaseCamp on one other PC.

It's always possible that something has changed making the large jcv not work in 1390s, but we'd need to hear this from multiple users before we can accept it.

A few thoughts:

-Is your large jcv 798,554KB in size? (Check both the computer download and the copy on SD.) Did you try deleting it and redownloading it in case it was a corrupt download? Do you "safely remove" or "eject" the SD card after transferring the large jcv to the card?

-You've said it already but can you confirm that the location of the large jcv on the SD card in in the \garmin\jcv\ folder? (I hate even suggestion this but a problem that's arisen causing JV failures in the past is naming the folder jvc rather than jcv.)

-Do you power down the nuvi and restart it when trying to use the large jcv? Maybe it's possible that without a reboot, the nuvi continues to look on the nuvi for the jcv file.

If you want to try a test, see what happens if you move your small default jcv file from the nuvi's jcv folder to the SD card's jcv folder. If you don't get Junction Views in this mode, then there may be a problem with the card's folders or the card itself.

It probably doesn't matter, but can you tell us if the 2014.20 map update was done to the SD card or if the map is internal to the nuvi?

Please--other 1390T owners: if you try the large jcv file with map update 2014.20, let us know if the large jcv works or doesn't work for you.

It probably doesn't matter, but can you tell us if the 2014.20 map update was done to the SD card or if the map is internal to the nuvi?

Please--other 1390T owners: if you try the large jcv file with map update 2014.20, let us know if the large jcv works or doesn't work for you.

Finally got the D3060110A.JCV file to work on the 1390T. I can't believe I wasted all this time on a bunch of corrupted files. sad I re-downloaded the file again for the 4th time and now it working and displays the Junction Views.

Had to use the old Map Install program to get it to say update available, but it downloaded and installed to PC and 660 in about 1.9 hrs.

Well, phooey! They have improved the "Routing" by making it worse!
