My POI all list Illinois and I am in St. Louis, Mo. Is there a fix for this?

I recently downloaded updated maps on my Garmin Nuvi 750. After I did this the Garmin kept showing Illinois as my location, even though I'm in St. Louis, Mo. I changed the location to St. Louis manually, but all my POI's are in Illilnois. Can anyone tell me if there is a fix for this?

Thanks in advance

Kathy

hard reset

First off, welcome to the site.

Your issue is a fairly common one and there is a procedure to fix it.

You may need to renter your home address and you may lose other favorites you have in the unit. It's best to do a backup before doing the hard reset, those instructions are under the LEARN tab at the top right.

More help needed

First off, welcome to The Factory.

Are you saying your vehicle is shown on the map in IL or that your POIs being shown are in IL--or both? If POIs, are you referring to the POI locations built into the map or Custom POIs loaded from sites like here at The Factory?

Here are a couple thoughts before we hear more from you:

1) if your vehicle is showing your current location as being in IL, look at the upper left hand corner of your display. Do the 5 bars show red or green bars? If green, how many? Please confirm that the bars don't have a red "X." If there is a red "X," your nuvi 750 is in Simulator mode. If you're not in Simulator mode, does your nuvi have a clear view of the sky and has been kept in one location until several green bars show?

2) If you have Custom POIs and they're showing in IL and none in MO, know that Custom POIs show the 50 or so nearest locations for the data and they'll show the 50 nearest to where your nuvi thinks it is. This may be corrected when you fix Issue #1, above. Depending upon the nearest POI locations to you, some POI files may see that the nearest locations are across the river from you and this is normal.

Ah, one last thought: when you updated your maps, did you receive all of North America or did you select a region smaller than all of North America? If you selected a smaller region and you chose, say, the eastern US and Canada, then MO won't be part of your map. You can tap Tools/Settings/Map/MapInfo. Tell us what you see there and if it's checked. You hopefully will see a checked "CN North America NT 2014.10." The latest map takes up a lot of space but during your map update, you should have been offered the full map of North America to be installed to a SD card. Was your map update done to the internal nuvi 750 storage or to an SD card?

@CraigW - Good analysis and questions

@Kkraus, we will be interested in your answers.

As Craig said, welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Do a check just to see what coordinates the gps has you at.Once you get the coordinates plug them into Google maps to verify the location.

What is the Satellite Information page, and how do I access it on my nuvi?

The Satellite Information page displays the strength of the satellite signals you are receiving and your GPS accuracy. It also displays the coordinates (latitude and longitude) and elevation of your current location.

To access the Satellite Information page on a nuvi 300, 600, 800, 805, or 5000 series:

Go to the main menu
Touch the satellite reception bars in the top left corner.*
To return to the main menu, touch the Back button. If one is not present, touch anywhere on the screen.
*Note: On the 300 and 600 series devices, the satellite reception bars will only appear if the antenna flap is up.

To access the Satellite Information page on a nuvi 30, 40, 50, 200, 205, 405, 500, 700, 705, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1600, 2200, 2300, 2400, 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3400, 3500, 3507, 3508, or 3700 series:

Go to the main menu
Touch and hold the satellite reception bars in the top left corner
To return to the main menu, touch the Back button. If one is not present, touch anywhere on the screen.
To access the Satellite Information page on a nuvi 295W:

Touch Tools
Touch Where Am I?
Touch Menu
Touch Satellite Info

Once location verified it may be a little easier to find the problem.
