Did the updates work

I downloaded the red light and speed camera updates.
Any way I can verify if they did upload to my 2555 LMT.
Thank you

.

Open the Extras folder and see if the red light file is there.

When you say you downloaded the file updates it doesn't really tell us a whole lot about what you did with them.

There are several well done tutorials that provide instruction on how to get the files from POI-Factory to work on you unit.

What did you do with them?

After you downloaded them, what did you do with them? They need to be installed using POI loader.

If it is installed correctly,

Gracenrich,

Assuming you have installed the followed the procedures outlined by Boxcar and Pwohlrab and assuing that your 2555 have the same UI as my 2495, do the following to check the installation:

Where to --> categories --> Custom POIs under “Other Categories” (you might need to scroll the screen down). You should see the Redlight-Cameras and/or Speed-Cameras listed.

Click on the”Red-light Camera” and the installed Red-light Cameras should be listed according to the distance from your current location.

Pick the one closest to you and do a simulation to the location, you should see the alert banner and hear a double ding or a spoken alert when you get close to it.

POI

My POIs wound up in a POI folder in a file called "garmin..gpi," instead of separate files. .I can't fine my favorites. though. My Extrss folder lists BIN files from 2012. I have no idea what they are.

POIs: this/these will in the POI folder with gpi extension(s). I don't use folders for POIs so hopefully someone else will help here. If you used POI Loader as expected to load the Red Light Cameras, their data will be in a gpi file in the POI folder.

Favorites: these are stored in a portion of your nuvi inaccessible to your file browser. You should have a current.gpx file that will also contain your Favorites that you can find.

ExtData: this folder is not related to POIs or Favorites and the bin files are likely needed by Garmin so I suggest leaving them be. I don't see any Extrss or Extras folder in any nuvi I have.

Separate files/ categories

The way I set them up is like the following: Where Poi Food is a folder containing a folder (Food) which contains all my files for Food. I do this because I load each category separately. And I can load just the ones I want to change. I do not load all my files every time I do an up date.

Poi Food
>Food
>Brueggers.csv
>Brueggers.bmp
>Red Robin.csv
>Cracker Barrel.csv or.gpx
Poi Motels and Hotels
>Motels and Hotels
>Holiday Inn.csv
>Days Inn.csv or .gpx

Point Poi loader at the top level folder such as Poi Food. It will load all the food and in the GPS you will have a category called "food".

If you want to load every file, every time you can set it up as follows:

Pois
>Food
>Brueggers.csv
>Brueggers.bmp
>Brueggers.wav
>Red Robin.csv
>Cracker Barrel.csv or.gpx
>Motels and Hotels
>Holiday Inn.csv
>Days Inn.csv or .gpx

You will still get the categories. The poi file can be csv or gpx. You can load a bmp file and an mp3/wav (depending on the unit).

I had no difficulty

I had no difficulty downloading or updating my POI files for red light & speed cameras.

How many?

When you look at the poi folder on your Garmin drive, how many .gpi files are there?

They are named as follows:
Motels and Hotels.gpi
Alerts.gpi,
Food.gpi
Rest Stops.gpi
and on for the other categories I gave.

Now I know I can get fancy and change to gpx and build in alerts but I don't want to go to the hassle. I also do not update every week. That is why my categories are the way they are and I can choose to update what I want.

Speed camera test

Thank you

In my case, here is how I verified that the upload worked on my Garmin nuvi 3597: I created a two-points route on a highway where I know there is a speed camera, the two points being close to the camera. I put the device in GPS simulation mode and make it drive that route and wait a few seconds. As soon as the vehicle approaches the camera (in simulation mode) a sound is played and an icon in the upper right corner pops up to signify the presence of the speed camera.
