1450

This is for your nuvi 1450, right? I just ask since some people try to use the large JCV on newer nuvi models that do not need it. Your 1450 like my 855 are models that definitely can use it and we will see a great improvement. Also, for others reading this in the future, jcv files are tied to map versions. For the new 2014.10 map, the large jcv file desired is D3060100A.JCV.

Now for your question. There are two things you need to do. The first is to remove or disable the current small jcv file that came with the map update. Find the small jcv file and move it to a computer backup, delete it, or simply rename it--I rename it to its filename with a .disabled resulting in a DxxxxxxxA.JCV.disabled. Your second task is to copy the large jcv file to the SD card's \Garmin\JCV\ folder. You may need to create the needed folder on the SD card if you don't see it.

A third thing to do is to either test it out on a route that will include JVs, either real-time or simulated to make sure it works.

[Later] Darn you quick-fingered Dorkus! wink I checked the link and see that at least I haven't disagreed with previous-me.

Actually

Actually the FIRST thing you need to do is to change Windows File View Options so that all hidden and system files and folders are visible in Explorer. The JCV file you need to rename/remove is in the JCV folder that in the .system folder. That folder is hidden by default.

.system on 1450?

Does the 1450 have a .system? I had guessed it was an old enough model not to have that "feature."

Along these lines, do we have here or somewhere on the web a faq on which models have .system? I know there are faqs on MTP vs. Mass Storage but don't remember a "presence of .system" faq.

In any event, I completely agree that somewhere down the road, a user will be bitten if they haven't reconfigured their PC to show extensions, not hide hidden files and folders, and not hide system files and folders.

We'd make terrible politicians then. What's so depressing is that the politicians seem not to even care that they oftentimes totally contradict their previous positions.

2014.10

Just managed to download 2014.10 to a SD card on my 855 and it only got the small JCV file.

Where do I get D3060100A.JCV the larger file?

Thx

Can you see the .system folder? Remember, it's DOT System. If not then you haven't gone into Windows Folder Options, click on the View tap and make these changes:

Under Hidden files and folders make sure the selected options is Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives.

Take the checkmark out of the entry titled Hide Protected Operating System Files

Click Apply

You have to make these changes to Windows before you will see the JCV folder and the JCV file inside it.

My 2460LMT

I updated my 2460LMT with MapUpdater, directly to the unit's internal RAM. The JCV file is D3191090A.JCV. It is reported as 453,916 kb.
