BaseCamp help please

Hi!

I'm playing with BaseCamp, mapping out our upcoming trip, and I'm having a little trouble.

I am working in the City Nav map as below:

My Garmin Devices
nuvi 2460 (GARMIN)
maps
City Navigator North America NT 2013.4

When I make changes to locations (waypoints?), or delete them, they seem changed or gone until I eject my gps and look at it. Everything is as it was, no changes. I connect back to computer, changes are all gone.

What am I doing wrong? When I delete, I choose:

Edit
Delete from nuvi 2460 (GARMIN)

I am just learning this program, and appreciate your help!!
smile

Exactly what are you trying to do - pick the roads you will use? If so, LOL (lots of luck, not the other meaning). Setting routes in Base Camp requires careful attention to your Activity Profile, and then it's a mostly miss situation.

The placement of the waypoint is EXTREMELY critical. You have to be certain the point is properly placed in the correct lane or lanes or it has you doubling back to get to the other side of the road. Don't use bussinesses or addresses as waypoints as the unit will continuously try to route you to the missed point. The best way to set a route is to locate your start point using the route tool and then stretch the pencil to your destination -again being very careful where the mark is. Let it draw the route, then going back into the details, add the needed waypoints to shape the route. It can be tedious and very frustrating. I prefer to use Streets & Trips, but Base Camp gives you a fairly accurate idea the route the nuvi will use. It's not always the same as he route you want, so be certain which roads you need for that particular leg BEFORE starting.

I use EPE to fine tune my position. I maximize the EPE map and go to satellite mode, where you can see the actual road and what lane you're in.

Beginning to use BaseCamp

See if this helps:
Without your unit connected:
Create a Folder (call it trips or whatever)
Create a List (name it Waypoints for your trip.
You may wish to create another List called Routes for your trip
List and Folder names are unique..only can be used once... without numbers or letters.
If the list is open(highlighted) your work will fall to that list...routes and waypoints can be in same list as well.

You can delete, cut, copy and make other changes to the data in the list...
When you finish your route with waypoints connect your GPS unit to the computer and then SEND TO the data to your GPS unit. when it is loaded (green bar will move rt) disconnect GPS... turn on again and your data should appear as it was on the map....

I think of the BaseCamp as the workpad for all data...and it stores all the data in Folder and Lists...always available before you... you can move data by Send To or drag and drop... Copy will move data to other lists and folders, but yet keeps it in the original file or folder... if you change the data within the waypoint..it will change in all list...however if you dupicate a waypoint...a change will on change data in that waypoint in that one list.

I find that my creating a folder called Z Planning...it puts that folder at the bottom for ease access (later you can change the name)

Don't give up..BaseCamp is a powerful tool...but the learning curve is steep (or least it was for me)...

Here is a link to some smugmug snips of my BaseCamp, to show the organization of my data...I have 28,000 waypoints and 350 routes...thanks to this forum and my years of planning routes.

I hope this helps....
