Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? – May 2013

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.)

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

San Jose to Colorado Springs

Did a 2 day 1400 mile drive to visit my sister and her family. GPS was invaluable during the two days, from easily finding my first night's hotel to locating restaurant for dinner. Also it helped me steer around some traffic issues due to road repair.

Memorial Day

Weekend trip to Lake George NY

Never leave home without it

I usually ALWAYS have my zumo with me. This morning I didn't take it when I took my 4 year old granddaughter with me on a short visit with some friends. I told her we would stop at BK, just a few miles from home, for her to have some French toast sticks. Not paying attention I missed the turn to the side street to BK so I turned into a parking lot to get to the street on the other side. While driving through the lot my granddaughter asks, "Why are we here Pop Pop?" I told her I missed my turn and we have to get the street on the other side. She just matter of fact says, "You should have your GPS Pop Pop. Then we won't get lost!" I guess she's right!

Thanks POI Factory

Back from a long trip to the Northlands. The Garmin database led me astray twice looking for shopping on the way back, while the POI files were perfect. Found pure gas twice without a problem, and found a bottle of wine to go along with dinner.

Anyhow, the outside food patio is fantistic, service and food is great, enjoyed seeing the African Macaws that are in a cage just outside the seating area. They bring them out of the cage to feed them at about 7PM, at sight to see!

Prior to Mission Inn, used Garmin to direct us to graduation, got there with no problems!

My high school prom was held in the Mission Inn, seems bout a hundred years ago. That was before the restoration but still a beautiful building back then.

Wow

Look at that, I've still got me windmill

Trip to the scrap metal shop

Was cleaning up around the house this weekend and dropped off a lead acid battery at a scrap yard. They paid $0.22/pound - ended up with $10 cash vs. the $5 credit that Advanced Auto would give.

Google nav app guided me there and back. Had never been to this shop before, and it was a big help.

Headed For The Hills

New RV

grin My wife and I just bought a "new" to us motorhome, a 1999 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 35'. I've been researching on line what GPS is good for motorhomes but nothing sounds any better than my TomTom via 1605 so I guess I'll simply stick with it.

Now just have to save up for gas. LOL!

Just updated the POIs we use....

for our trip to Alaska. We start the adventure this Saturday!

Slow pokes

Over Memorial Day weekend, decided to avoid the typical holiday traffic jams, and left camp about 10 am, hitting I-68 and I-70 in Maryland between 10:30 and noon. Volume of traffic was high, but all moving at the typical speed of 5 mph over the limit (65). We could really see the effect of just one slow poke out of a hundred vehicles who decides to drive at or slightly below the speed limit and hugs the left lane. A backup ensues, and many drivers weave in and out of traffic in an attempt to get ahead of pokey Joe. Once passed the inconsiderate driver, traffic flows smoothly again. It is a shame that Maryland does not have a "keep to the right except to pass" law as other states have.
