How old is your street view

I was looking at my address on GoogleMaps today using street view. I realized that I could see a pile of trash that would let me date the image to the spring of 2008 (some renovation work).

Is there anything unique to your street view that would let you date it?

If so, when was the shot taken?

2008 here also. The park pavilion was razed and new one not built yet. Plus..The street view is dated Oct 2008. The trees were just starting to turn color.

Google maps

The Google camera car drove by my house last May while I was mowing, but no street level views have shown up so far. I wonder how long it takes for Google to publish the street views once they capture them.

I have been surprised at how often Google updates the up close aerial imagery. In my neighborhood, that looks to be from May or June of 2012.

old and low-res

Mine is October 2007. The image resolution is quite a lot inferior to much of the recent takes.

Last Summer we travelled along the Baltic Sea, and in reviewing Google Earth Street Views from places on our route I was just astonished at the resolution they provided. Street shots within the old city portion of Tallinn Estonia were so high that you could easily spot the menu posted by the door of the small restaurant that was recommended to us for lunch. Could not quite read the entries, however, but the face-blurring software was no joke--I'm sure lots of people could have been recognized without it.

I live and work in Silicon Valley.

Home date is 10/31/2011 (about mid-day from the shadow angles)

Work nearby is the same date, 10/31/2011, with pretty similar shadow angles.

Interesting, going to the 'historical view" shows some very good imagery from 8/23/2012 at both locations, along with what seem to be some multispectral and monochrome/IR shots.

Recently they updated it, but for years the view of my house on Google maps showed my white Sebring convertible in the driveway. It was replaced by a black Sebring in 2006.

Old Hose in Yard is Two and Half Years Ago

I have an old hose in my yard that dates back to at least two and half years ago. It's funny that this topic came up, because I just looked at this myself not but a few days ago and wondered how often they update.

Appears to be 2008

Our house view appears to be 2008 time frame. I wonder why it is so old. You would think it to be updated every 30 days or so. On weather.com our house satellite view is definitely 2010 as we just had the pool put in.

The google maps shot says 2013 and shows the wooded lot down the street. All those tress were torn down sometime last year to make room for houses.

updates

For me it looks like they are updating areas that were changed as priority. I mean like new roads, buildings etc. If you look at bigger areas you sometimes can see, that some areas (especially rural ones) are in very low resolution. So I guess they were taken years ago. On the other hand they much often do upgrades in cities, especially big ones, where changes in landscaping were significant.

So if you live in the middle on nowhere than you probably have small chance to get updates very often if any wink

Street View

Mine is at least two years old

April 2012

Mine says "Image Date April 2012" in the lower left corner. I can't verify that from the image detail, though. Shows my daughter's car in the driveway, but of course you can't zoom in enough to read the date on the small license renewal sticker. And even if you could, they fuzzed her rear license plate out.

July 2011

I didn't know they had my street up until I looked to see because of this post. The blurring shows 2013. Yes they caught me in the garage, surprised so I've been blurred. Just as well.

Image Date July 2011.

Delayed On Purpose

I thought for national security reasons, Google is required to delay the posting of photos by at least a year (or at least that's what I heard from a prior Google employee).

on the picture, and the fact my car is there and I bought it in April 2012, I'd have to agree with it..

And it was a Monday afternoon or Tuesday since the trash cans are out.

My street view was added

My street view was added about 2.5 years ago and hasn't been updated since. I guess because of actually having to drive the route to get the street view, it's not done very often. Especially with my street which is pretty static from changing very often.

I'm not on street view yet. Yay!

Street View

I didn't expect them to photo a residential street, but I got the surprise when I upgraded to an Android phone and was using the Google Navigation on it on the way home from work. VERY surprised to see a photo of my house pop up when we got about 200' away from my driveway.

Several Years For Me

The StreetView of my home dates to January 2008. It is funny to see my year-and-a-half niece's toys in front of the house. She turns seven in less than a month.

In the meantime, my sister's house 17 miles away was photographed twice by Google. The latest was July 2011. Previously it was sometime in the Spring of 2009 IIRC. I was surprised to look at the StreetView one day a little over a year ago and see it had changed.

They must have been out all over Nassau County around that time. Our house was hit by a car in late 2007 (yes really!) and the contractor who did the repair work left one of his signs on the lawn for several months. It's visible in the StreetView image, which would place the photo in early 2008.

Changes every 3 years with half year delay

My nephew from Canada visited us just for a weekend and parked his car outside. When we Googled our street seems like old times and brings us memories of him living in our home for the past three years, every day... Last month, Google changed the view of our home with a picture taken half a year ago and the sweet memories of my nephew's visit are now gone... crying

I think this is pretty accurate. I've noticed the same for rural vs. urban areas myself.
