Icons

Can anyone help me convert 5 BMP's to files I could use as icons on my Garmin GPS?

I have them saved as 24x24 pixels or smaller images, but POI Loader constantly fails when installing them and their associated gpx, csv files.

Welcome

Welcome to The Factory, fellow Flagstaffian (and probably RVer or trucker).

Since you're new to the site, can you confirm that you named the bmps to match the POI file; e.g.,

with a Redlight-Cameras.csv POI file, your bmp icon is called Redlight-Cameras.bmp and not something like Redlight_Cameras.bmp or Redlight-Camera.bmp?

Second, if using a Windows PC, have you set your computer's Folder Options by unchecking "Hide extensions for known file types"? If left checked, it's quite possible that your bmp files are actually xxxx.bmp.bmp double extensions which will fail to load.

Do you see an error message when trying to load the file with POI Loader? If not, and if you're just not seeing the icons on your map, you may need to zoom in to see them. What happens if you view one of you POI loacations that should have an icon--probably tap Whereto/Extras/CustomPOIs, then tap one of the selections and choose one of the locations and tap Map--does the POI exist and is there any icon?

Shout back and we'll work this out--and don't plan to take SR89 to Page for a while wink

If you're good on all the above, are you saving the file as a 256-color bitmap?

One way to see if the problem is your bmp files or "all bmp" files is to download and test one of the many icons available here at the factory and see if it loads:

Hi Craig,

Yes, I have followed every step here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359 to no avail. POI Loader give the message "There was an unexpected error during the creation of the custom POI file." The POI data loads fine, but no icon.

I use a Mac so I depend on Online providers for the conversion from JPG to BMP.
