Improving Newer Nuvi Refresh Rates

Thought I would pass on a few tips for those of you that might be a little agitated with auto-zoom and nuvi refresh rates. If you are in the middle of nowhere this might not be a big deal but in the city like me, being able to see your turns quickly before you get to them is essential and that will come down to the refresh rate. Nuvi processors are slow so here are some tips to speed up the refresh/redraw rate of your newer nuvi.

If you're not really using it or could do without OR you feel like it's a feature that completely sucks, I suggest turning it off.

1. Bluetooth - I don't like it. The sound quality is bad and it just eats processing power and your cellphone battery. If you're not using it or don't like it, turn it off to see a slight performance increase.

2. Map layers - Uncheck places along the road if you really don't care about them. Same goes for trip log. Matter of fact, the more things in that menu you turn off the faster your nuvi will refresh and perform. I personally don't need to know where every Starbucks in the universe is. I only care about where I'm going. This will increase redraw rates significantly but at a price. Your POI icons will not display at all.

3. In a place with no traffic or traffic data? Disable it and take the icon off your screen.

4. Hook the nuvi up to the computer and rename the jcv file to something else. This will disable junction views completely and will also increase performance but at an obvious price.

5. Map Detail - Set it to normal or less. I honestly don't notice a difference at all between normal detail and more detail but I do notice a performance difference.

These are just a few beginning tips and I'm sure there are more but the golden rule here is, if you can live without it, don't need it, or don't like it then disable it/hide it/delete it.

Thanks for all the tips!
