If there is only a USB connector port on the cradle, here again we have the potential problem of the wire putting stress on the connector to the cradle. They should design it where there is a clip to hold the wire in place so the stress is put on the clip rather than the connector.
None of the available pictures shows the other side of the connector, where I'd assume the charging cable connects, but yeah, I see no strain relief provision either. One could probably just use a zip tie or velcro strap, though. I'd be more concerned about the lower models that will rely on the mini-USB port on the back even while in the mount. It was probably much stronger on the side than in the middle of the back.
Of course none of them have audio out nor will they play my books from audible.com. Until they come up with a new unit that has those features I'll stick with my 760.

I was comparing my 3490LMT with the 3597LMTHD and with the exception of a refreshed GUI, it's basically the same unit with the exception of the screen size, less battery life with the 3597, no more pedestrian mode/photo nav/audio book player with the 3597, added Real Directions (make left at gas station vs. Main Street), and a magnetic mount. The only complaint I have with the 3490 is that the photo realistic JV is hard for me to read (my eyes are not as good as they used to be) so if the 5-inch model has the same resolution and is easier to see, then I may consider. Last CES I put my 3490 right up against a 3590 and found that the 3590's resolution looked washed out. I really think the 5-inch models should pack more than 800x480 pixels but maybe it's technically not possible yet (I don't know). I will of course put my 3490 up against the 3597 at CES this week and try to compare.
The only thing that concerns me is it says N/A for USB mass storage mode. I can't imagine that being gone. If it is, that would be a huge deal breaker.[/quote]
I agree totally. Garmin has actually dumbed down the 3597 conmpared to the 3490.
I don't care for the silver trim on the Advanced series and wish they offered more model sizes in the Prestige line. I mentioned the Prestige line issue above and was hoping more models would be released. I like the magnetic mount.
Does any of them offer the option of detour by road? for example, when you get the routing to your destination calculated, you should have an option to remove a specific road, or maneuver, a turn, for example?
I'm still content with my 3760, but it is nice to read about the new models - I am interested in the HD traffic though, but that is not enough for me to want to replace my device.
Does anyone know if with HD traffic you can receive a snapshot of all the traffic on your route or is does it just update as you enter the cities coverage area?
If it's only the cities coverage area, could the Smartphone Link app close this gap?

Not interesting: Garmin heading in wrong direction:
Garmin heading in wrong direction. Old school formula for customer loyalty (read return sales): fix what's broken; do no harm to current customer base products. Garmin has violated that basic business strategy. Why have custom POI's (as downloadable from this site) suddenly (after the last two LM updates) not working on our 1450LMT? LT worthless 50 mi radius of NYC & meaningless beyond.
And these prior customers' problems do effect future corporate earnings: we could be in the market for another NUVI as a graduation gift, but that will not happen given the shoddy update performance in both the NUVI & handheld Oregon line.
Wow. Thank you so much for your great review there!
I'm liking everything about 3597LMTHD except for the deleted "pedestrian" mode. I wanted that feature! Now I'm really torn between spending out for the 3597LMTHD when available or saving a lot of moolah and getting a refurbished 3590LMT now?!
Either would be okay as I am stepping up from a 1490LMT... So many nice features on the new "97" though!

Guess I'll keep agonizing over it for a while.
You'll have plenty of time...the release is like April I think.
I have a 3490 LMT and found the HD traffic service unreliable in that it has very spotty coverage and range. I can travel down major commuting Interstates in Washington DC and not have any coverage for 30+ minutes. I finally had to subscribe to the SmartLink app and always get my traffic via a BlueTooth connection.
I was wondering how many of us have already or considered to upgrade to this new unit. I for one have pre-orderd it but my mistake was to sell the previous unit prior to getting this new unit, well that is ok for now, I can use the GPS in my car but not happy about it, it will have to do until I receive deliver of my new unit

I'm very seriously considering it. I'll be very interested in your impressions of the unit. There are features of my 885T I'll miss, but then there are some improvements with this one.
The silver will not hold up do day-to-day normal use even if carefully handled. Anything other than solid black will very quickly start to show scrapes, scratched and work areas in the paint, especially in the corners. I don't understand why manufacturers do this. If they want to make something silver they should make it from solid silver or gray plastic.

That 7" screen looks nice especially for my old eyes but my original Nuvi just keeps plugging away. I don't need all of the extra "bells & whistles" as I don't need them. I'm also not one to go out and buy the latest and greatest until they come out with something that I absolutely have to have. I'll pass and stay off the bandwagon until they come out with some major breakthrough
I'll wait six months or so, then get this one. And then I'll scrape the silver finish off the front with the dull edge of a knife, like I did with my 1300.
I like my electronics in basic black.

Any thoughts on why they
Any thoughts on why they wouldn't offer a 7 inch 3597? Is 5" considered a more desirable form factor?

I also wondered about this too...
Any thoughts on why they wouldn't offer a 7 inch 3597? Is 5" considered a more desirable form factor?
because a 7" screen will
because a 7" screen will fall off your windshield??
It sounds like maybe the 7
It sounds like maybe the 7 inch has the same resolution as the 5. That might explain things a bit...
