POI Files

Hello all

Okay I am new here so pardon my ignorance...Need some help here,I have a Garmin 465LMT... I downloaded a file and when it downloaded the file it was placed in my favorites > downloaded file...when I browse for the folder in the POI loader the file is not there. I did read the tip of the POI Loader will sometimes not see all files in the folder so I selected the folder( did not work). I even tried to make a new folder to place it in and it did not work. Sorry but I do not know what these formats mean in relation to my Garmin.

How do I get these files to my Garmin & Thank You for your help in advance!!

A couple of examples:

A)Flying J "GPX" format
B)Weigh Stations USA "CSU" tab for CSV format AND "Tom Tom OU2 for OV2 format

Try this

I think you're downloading files from the internet and storing them in your computer's "Favorites." Given all the stuff most folks have in Favorites, a better solution would be to create a new folder solely for POI files (and later on, possibly wav audio and bmp icons that you want installed along with the csv or gpx files).

I think you almost have the "tip" but it's not that "...of the POI Loader will sometimes not see all files in the folder..." but that POI Loader will not see any of the files in the folder you direct it to.

If the folder you use for POI files is C:\Users\YourName\POI, for instance, when running POI Loader, browse to and set "the folder where the data files can be found" for that folder even though you see that it appears empty. The good news is that as long as you keep this folder on your computer for POI files, POI Loader will automatically look there in the future unless you want to change it.

Running POI Loader with your nuvi connected will install your downloaded csv or gpx files (don't use Tom Tom OU2 files with Garmin's POI Loader software for your nuvi) to your nuvi as a GPI file. A successful run will end with POI Loader saying something like "xx,xxx POIs have successfully been loaded."

To find the Custom POIs on your nuvi after installation, tap three times, once for each page on your nuvi:

WhereTo/Extras/CustomPOIs

and you should see the POIs you've loaded where you can tap one and be given the option to create a route to it

If you haven't read the POI Loader faq here, this is a good way to start:

Welcome to The Factory and please report back with further questions--and hopefully a message of success fairly soon. Once you've got this done, we can add discussions of setting alerts, installing audio, and installing icons to make your Custom POIs even more useful.
