3790LMT vs 3590LMT

This is certainly weird. One would think these units would calculate the same distance with rlc files. When I first got my 3790LMT I had to figure out what distance I would set the warnings at. That took a while but
ended up doing 330 ft for red light and double for speed Cameras. So when I got the 3590LMT I just did the same. Today I went to get a Christmas Tree with the Wife. Tree farm was about 17 miles away. Lots of Cameras along the way. I noticed my warnings were way too late. I had no chance of stopping. I'm still not quite sure which one of theses units is correct, but I know they are quite a bit different in distance judging. I set the 3590 to 1300 ft. now. The only issue that might present is too many upcoming warnings. We will see. Does sound a bit much.

I have always used 1,320 ft (.25 mile) for my RLC alerts and 1,969 ft (almost .4 of a mile) for my Speed cam alerts. IMO, 330 ft is way too close to be useful.

You would think so, but it's plenty on my 3790. Never gave it a thought to actually judge the distance as the unit goes off. Kinda winged it.

I use 200 meters on both the 3790, and the 775. Seems to work just fine. Speed cams are stock at 400 meters.

I agree, that worked for my 765T and my 3790. It does not work for the 3590. I just haven't figured out which one of these units is correct. Time for you to upgrade again. Ya Ya. i know both your units work fine.
You said that before you got the 3790 also. razz

What is the standard "out of the box" setting for these files? Just curious, as I have these installed but it never occurred to me to "tweak" the settings. Thank you.

With the key words in the file name the default is about 400 meters or 1320 feet. You can find the keywords that trigger the alert in the POI Loader help file.

600 meters or 1970 ft is default for speed camera files

I also use the same figures

I also use the same figures 1320 for the RLC and 1969 for the speed cameras and seem to work fine with my unit

Conversion Tool

A bit off topic but may be useful to some users.

Below is a link for a free progarm I've been using for years. It has the ability to convert distance, speed, area, just to name a few.

It's a simple program that need not be installed onto your PC, just click on the "covert.exe" file and it will open from any location. The file is zipped on the download so you must unzip before using. It's only 548 KB.

It is many applications for conversions, I use it frequently. The download page gives a screenshot of the various coversion choices. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH MACS.

Interestingly enough, the camera warning signs on poles here are 200 meters out from the intersection.

That's 650 feet. Kinda far to take a pic of your license plate.

Warning signs? What are those? Never see those.
We don't got those. What makes your town so special?

In Santa Fe only one of the three speed cameras posts a warning sign (actually 2 signs, one in each direction). They camera vans are moved pretty much on a daily basis, but locations are posted on a web site as well as in the local paper.
