Black Friday refurb straight from Garmin - 2460LMT $99.99 with free S&H

Wow, now there's a deal for a LMT complete with 5" screen and Bluetooth. As I mentioned in the subject, the seller of this item is Garmin:

599 have been sold as I type this.

[Update of 12/4/12: The auction has ended with 5,857 sold.]

Hmm, as I look more at the listing, I see that eBay (not Garmin) states in the "Item Specifications" that the 2460LMT feaures a Built-In Barometer! Someone's going to have to tell me how to find that feature in mine!

I'm really wondering

not all of them are refurbed. As the model now shows in the discontinued classification, they could have just reboxed unsold inventory.

both

It gets the split screen when you get new maps but you can also install the large JCV by downloading it separately.

After running the large JCV in my 2460 for one map duration I returned to the split screen, it shows longer on the screen.

Good deal

It is always good to have a good deal. If it is manufacture refurbished should be ok. I wish I could find one with European and North America maps.

Garmin has refurbished 1370T models on ebay (41 sold as of now) at a price of $108 shipped*, a bit better than Amazon's price for a new 1370T, but certainly not the deal that the 2460LMT is today.

*Lifetime traffic but NOT lifetime maps. To me, many folks would be better off getting the 2460LMT, then buying the European map on a SD card if they needed Europe as well as North America.

3745 sold and still being offered Saturday

I love the listing:

More than 10 available

then

3745 sold (and more are still available)

How does this compare to 3790LMT?

I missed out on the $160 deal for a refurb 3790LMT (WalMart) a while back, now they're $343.

I am wondering how that model differs from this 2460LMT? I currently have a 255W. Sounds like this is a great deal and I should grab one. Any thoughts on this?

When the model has LMT it really does mean free maps and traffic updates for life, right?

Update to my post: I just found this review on this item
"I get commercials on the top of my screen. Sometimes when it says calculating route, it seems like it is slowed down so I can look at the commercial..
Route calculation times are totally unacceptable. Very slow compared to Garmin PC. Almost any laptop mapping / gps software is at least 300 times faster..."

A lot of manufacturers rebox excess new inventory as refurbished

That is true. A lot of manufacturers rebox excess new inventory of discontinued models and sell as a refurb so as not to alienate the retailers that are still trying to sell the same model new units still in their inventory.

When I bought my "Refurbished" 3790 LMT from Walmart for around $150 the unit was brand new and never used with all new still sealed accessories and manual. It was as new as any Garmin I have owned and came with the same warranty as new. The only difference was the box was blue and white.

At the auction page, check footnotes 2 and 3 for details on Lifetime maps and traffic. This is the current policy from Garmin for all new and refurb units being offered by Garmin. From my standpoint, they are free and they'll most likely still be offered long after my 2460 bites the dust so I'll accept the term lifetime as correct as well. I haven't seen an ad yet but gather that most folks consider them pretty unobtrusive. Ads can be eliminated by either a) disabling traffic, or b) buying a paid traffic subscription.

Compared to your 255W, you should be very happy with this, especially at this price. Compare this to what you paid for your 255W or to the cost of adding a one-time or lifetime map update to your current GPS. Here's a pretty positive review of the 2460.

http://gpstracklog.com/2011/03/garmin-nuvi-2460lmt-review.ht...

I've had mine for two months now and have not seen slow downs or lengthy calculation times. If you do find these things, a quick fix is often to clear the trip log and to disable some of the quirkier features like myTrends and such.

Since the above review was published, I'll add a couple corrections: first, junction views are now split-screen and stay on until you are at the junction; and second, the junction views offered with the current map update (2013.30) are very common, and are seen at most interstate exits, etc.

Over 4000 sold now and the price is up to $110.

Great deal

This is a really great deal, especially since it's coming directly from Garmin with a 1 year warranty.

Compared to the 3790, it's advantages are: the 2460 screen is 5" vs 4", it has speed limit corrections and you can customize the main menu. Otherwise, the 3790 offers a high rez screen, sleep mode, faster processor and 3D terrain. Both have 8GB internal storage. The 2460 is a good unit, but I really like the 4" screen and responsiveness of the 37xx and 34xx series. That screen is just beautiful.

wink Given that Garmin no longer offers the large JCV file which I want for my 855 with each map update, I at least had a small justification for adding a new nuvi to my collection.

The customizable main screen and speed limit corrections work splendidly!

Hey folks, as I'm sure you already know, Garmin GPS devices haven't included a case for a very long time. Given the theft potential and summer heat issues of leaving a nuvi in a vehicle, most folks will want a case. And for folks upgrading from a 4.3" nuvi to a 2460 with its 5" screen, you old cases will be too small.

Yes, Garmin offers cases for 5" nuvis. But I found that Amazon has its own line, AmazonBasics, and they have two 5" cases offered at a very attractive price. I bought and love my slide-in faux leather case (the one currently backordered at Amazon) but see that they still have the hard case available:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/185-6350103-4146839?u...

If you decide to get one, your next task will be finding something to add to your Amazon order to meet the minimum total price for free S&H smile

GPS update!!

The ebay auction is still running with "More than 10 available / 5,830 sold", but the price right now is $155 with free S&H. Congrats to all who bought at $100 or even $110.

I tank you for your info. I will ponder that. Make sense since I use my gps more often in North America than in Europe. With the 2460LMT, I will have maps and traffic updates and the sd card for Europe.

Thank you

I've been watching the auction, too. The feedback from Buyers of the $99.99 auction started to be posted Nov. 28 so early buyers should have seen or will soon see their delivery.

Received Unit

Arrived today - Ordered 11/23.
Unit looks new. Just have to set it up and see it in action.

Got mine today

I too got mine today and they included a mini USB cable to connect to the computer instead of the micro USB cable. Called up customer service and they are sending me a new micro usb cable. the Unit DOES NOT look brans new to me .. looks like a refurb, so it is basically a luck of the draw what you get. I downloaded and installed the 2013.30 maps and took it out for a spin and tested out the voice navigation and everything works as expected.

BTW the battery was completely drained when I opened up the box, so had to charge it for 3+ hours to get it fully charged.

Drained battery

My battery was also totally drained. Although a refurb, mine had no visible cosmetic damage and looked brand new. Looks like someone might had purchased it Nov 2011 when I went to register the unit. For $99, cannot complain at this time unless the unit dies or the battery dies after 1 year. I like the unit a lot more than my old 265wt which I happen to break the day after I received the 2460lmt. I threw the 265wt into the glove compartment and slammed it closed onto the front of the unit which cracked the front. The touchpad no longer works.

Mine arrived yesterday,

Mine arrived yesterday, ordered 11/25. Looks new. Charged the battery and now it's time to play! I'll let you know how it does.

Can I transfer my favorites and pois from my 255w?

The easiest way to install Custom POIs to a new nuvi is to use POI Loader and run it with your new nuvi attached by USB. This is a good time to check your POI files on your computer to see if they're the most current ones; i.e., the RedLight and Speed Camera files found here at The Factory are updated very often and great files like Rest Areas Combined is updated often as well.

You can also transfer your 255W's Favorites to your new 2460LMT. Here's Garmin's faq on the process (copy and paste to your browser if the following isn't clickable):

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={51c35d50-3dbf-11df-e655-000000000000}

PS--Your 2460LMT is a nuvi with 8 GB of storage so if you had been installing Custom POIs to a SD card with your old nuvi, you can safely install Custom POIs to the nuvi internal memory with the 2460.

Thanks Craig!

Couldn't

Sixeye wrote:

Couldn't let this go by without comment it's 100% incorrect. The only way that the menus move to the side of the map screen is if a user selects that option. By default, what shows on the screen on a 5" Nuvi is exactly the same as what shows on the 4" screen. It's a user selectable option that puts the extra data on the side of the screen.

Loving it!

I am happy to report that I absolutely love my 2460LMT which I purchased for $99 THANK YOU CRAIG for the heads up on this deal.

I love the split screen in potentially confusing freeway driving. It shows me exactly which lane(s) to be in, along with a picture of the upcoming exit.]

Now I am going to play with the POIs, transfer mine from my 255W and see what else I might want to add.

The ONLY thing I can find that is a bit frustrating is when it recalculates (if I missed a turn, or decided to go a different direction). It recently took too long to recalculate and I missed the exit (again).
