OUT OF MEMORY

Anybody else see this error? I periodically see this come up on my 560LMT -- OUT OF MEMORY. When it comes up, there's an "OK" bar, and I tap it, it goes away. No other effect that I can tell.

Out of Memory

I haven't seen this nor do I have a 560LMT. Are you doing anything in particular when this pops up? Navigating or just driving along? Near the same location or different locations? How much unused memory do you have left on the GPS?

Navigating...

I usually "navigate" everywhere I go. Just a habit, I guess -- so I guess I'm navigating when I get the error. And it happens in different locations, I can't discern any pattern.

The GPS has 3.48 gB free out of 7.31 total.

The SD card has 1.81 gb free, out of 1.83 gb total.

Perhaps I should email Garmin Customer Support and try to talk them into putting me in contact with one of the engineers, or something.

Wow,

Thats enough memory for a whole new set of maps, interesting to find the cause

Just out of curiosity

Have you cleared the trip log? The other items I would look at would be the number of stored routes and favorites. These have limitations as to the number of items they will hold which would not necessarily affect the overall memory status.

Yep...

Yes, I've cleared the trip log, and I only have about 600 "favorites" in the unit. It's advertised as being able to handle either 1,000 or 2,000. Either way, not even close to what I have in there.

I have about 6 or 8 stored routes, all fairly short. I'd hope it could hang onto that many, but I really don't know.

out of memory

that's odd

I'm beginning to think that

I'm beginning to think that GPS units need to be restored to factory settings or reset every so often just to return to normal operation, much like a Windows computer benefits from a system rebuild periodically. A factory reset often seems to flush out some of these memory issues and bugs.

Navigating long trips?

I used to see this on my 855 every once in a great while when planning long trips (usually avoiding interstates). Garmins support told me the unit was unable to create/store all neccessary turns for the trip and suggested splitting the trip into 2 or more segments. On the 855 they said the error referred to working memory rather then storage memory.

Out of memory

I get this in my 3790 all the time. I only have about 50 waypoints saved. Garmin tells me that when setting up a route the invisible waypoints the GPS sets up for the route cause that!

Funny I had never had that in my 855. I could set up a 3,000 mile route without a problem. Using the 3790 I have to break up the route in 2 - 3 segments and if I leave the first segment then going into the 2nd segment I will still get the out of memory message. I have to delete the 1st segment to try and avoid the message.

Sometimes I think newer is not necessarily better!!!

Additionally due to the 3790 being wonky I have my 855 with me so I do not get stuck without a GPS.

Same with the 3490

It is the same with my 3490 as well. Cross continent routes can never be generated. The error message “The route is too long. Navigation instructions are added as you approach the destination.” and sometimes “Route cannot be calculated”. Never happened to my 765T.

hehe (laughing) Looks I

hehe (laughing)

Looks I should wait for Garmin to get everything working right before upgrading to the newer 2012 line.

Wow

I own a 3790 and have never experienced anything like that.
