I phone ---confused

I guess I am confused. Can someone please tell me what makes the iphone any better than all the new Android phones out there. My son and daughter in law both have the new iphone and I cannot see where it is any better than their sons Android phone. In fact the Android phone has many features the iphone does not have and a great mapping and gps feature...It appears to me that all the hype is just that and Apple is putting features in the IPhone 5 that Android phones have had for years..

Opinion

People have to weigh the pros and cons of both before going with one or the other. There's a ton of press about iSheep out there and iPhones/iPads being along the lines of religious relics rather than devices. Hell, I've used some of this rhetoric in the past. But the reality of the situation is this: both devices work well, but are tailored to different types of users.

Assuming a stock (i.e. not jailbroken/rooted) device, my biggest issues with the iPhone are that, as I understand it, you're forced to use iTunes for basic account management. I don't like the limited amount of customization available to the device, and I don't like the concept of an outside party (i.e. Apple) telling me what I can and cannot have on my device. But, for the average end user, an iPhone will do the job and do it well.

Android doesn't require special software for account management, is infinitely customizable, and Google doesn't restrict the end user into using only specific apps. Anyone can write an app for Android and post it without Google approval. But Android is not as resistant to virii as iOS, and the carriers love to throw their bloatware onto the device, which slows it down.

Many iPhone owners aren't interested so much in the customization aspects of their devices and don't really worry too much about the other things I don't like about Apple. My roommate has an iPod Touch, which is essentially an iPhone without the phone. She uses Pandora on it, and occasionally plays a game with it. She's not interested in customizing it. On the flip side I have an Android "phablet" as well as an Android tablet. The phablet's interface I had extensively customized and tweaked, with replacement versions of apps for it such as the phone dialer, system interface, and launcher. Currently I go with an ICS look on my Gingerbread phablet, since my tablet runs ICS. Even it has been customized, but not all that extensively. The battery indicator was replaced, and that was it.

TL;DR: iPhone and Android appeal to different types of people, primarily relating to how easily the device can be customized.

I use both and..

I must admit.. I have an android phone and really do love it. Also have a ipad and its good too. My only real complaint about apple devices are the following:

There seems to be no button to “go back” to the last screen you were at. With android there is a “go back” button.

There seems to be NO real “Menu” button to get to setting, etc, unless the programmer made one in the app.

There seems t0 be no way to add more memory to a apple device (such as a SD card)

Last, I believe that Apple does not allow for FLASH to be played on Devices.

Both are fine devices and do a great job. I do find that APPS seem to come out to Apple 1st, then to Android but I also see that it costs a liile more to purchase on the apple store.

If I am wrong in any of the above statements, then I just could not find how to do the things I said.

That’s my 2 cents in all this.

Comparing Apples to Androids

I have an iPhone and iPad through work, and purchased a Galaxy S3 for family use.

Personally I do not see the iPhone being significantly better than the S3, but I'm a little biased because I've never been a fan of Apple products redface . The memory in the iPhone cannot be (easily) increased and I just installed an extra 64Gb on the S3. So I downloaded my music files to the S3. Which is probably a good thing because I shouldn't have personal stuff on my work phone anyway twisted

Like many things in life, it all comes down to personal preference as to whether you choose Apple or Android.

Get used to not having Flash on Android.

The inability add more storage is one I didn't touch on because there are ways to get around that, like Dropbox. But, get used to Android not having Flash either. As of Jellybean, mobile Flash for Android is no longer available in the Play Store to download, and while the Flash app works in Jellybean still, eventually it's going to break. When it breaks, Adobe won't be fixing it, because there will be no further updates to Flash except for security fixes.

I have Flash on my tablet, but I'm debating whether I still need it or not on Android.

And seeing as the iPhone came out 10 months before any Android, Android has many features that the iPhone had like multi touch and touch input rather than a stylus.

On an iPad to go back or forward between apps you use a 4 finger swipe.

Here's a link to a good iPad manual.

I have the IPhone 5 and my kids have android phones. It's a matter of preference on what you like and dislike.
Personally I think the Iphone is more intuitive and they are better made. they feel more solid. Most Android phones use too many plastic parts.
I can also tell you from experience that if you plan to keep your smartphone a long time the IPhone will last longer. I still have the original Iphone while we have had several android phones break(no drops) and had to get a replacement.

Have you had to replace the battery? If so, how?

It is very simple and there are many instructions in youtube

that you can watch and do it yourself. Buy the battery online or from ebay.

I still have the original batteries on all my iphones.

They have several youtube videos on how to replace them yourself.

Flash oh iPhone or iPad

If you want to use Flash on IOS you can do it by using the app "Photon" available in the apps store. No need to jailbreak or anything. Still it's only needed for awhile since Flash is going away.
