Honda's CVS and KML POI files

I have a new 2013 Honda Accord with Nav. The manual states I can add CSV and KML POI files. I downloaded the Shell csv file from POI Factory as a test. The Nav states the max number of categories had been reached when I try to install it. It also said I can delete one or more. But when I follow the delete procedure, it states there are no entries.

I goggled KML POI and it seems to be an xml format for Google maps.

I'm a software engineer and understand things like xml. I need more information for the KML schema(format) to understand what needed to be done.

All this is time consuming. I'm hoping there are web sites which have files which can directly be loaded into the Honda Nav. Or software which can convert from cvs to KML for the Honda Navi.

Does anybody have information about this? I search this forum and found little, but maybe I missed it. I search this forum but did not find too much, maybe I missed it?

Will do. I hit the speed/red light cameras weekly.

Update on POI-Factory Red Light Cameras

We finally went to town and came to two intersections with red light cameras.

As previously stated I put the POI-Factory redlight cameras for Texas on my Honda Accord Navigation system.

They work great... When we came close to the intersection a warning bell... sort of ding, ding, dinggggggg, ding, ding, dingggggggg .... sounded (I jumped as I thought it was our front crash warning) then I look at the Navigation screen and at the bottom was a blue banner with white letters with "RLC - (and the intersection name). It went off in plenty of time. Not sure how far but was just right.

As I said they work great, just have to find a way to turn down my alarm sound. smile

Just updating this post and noticed my other post...

There

There should be a setting for Proximity Alerts on your Nuvi. You can probably get rid of the mulitple dings by changing the setting to Single Tone or you can turn them off all together.

I will look in my settings

Thanks, I will look in my settings. The unit doesn't seem to have as much as the garmin does in settings and I can't find a way to change the icons.
Will keep looking.
Thanks again,

Honda Custom POI 2000 limit

Just to do a quick check with the 2000 Redligt cameras still loaded.Make a different folder for the Speed Cameras.Load them just to see if it takes and stops at 2000.If it does you know to break the files down to 2000 per category.Hopefully the limit is the amount of space you have available on the Gps.

Even though the file said loading when the 2000 limit was reached it did not save to my unit.

I put the Redlight Camera file in Excel and saved only the Texas Cameras and then opened Extra POI Editor and saved them to .kml then I turned on Alerts and will have to see if they alert.

I now have 910 files on my unit and I will keep up with what I put on it and see if the 2000 is for total or each file.

Now have to find how to load Icons. All my downloaded Icons are the same.

Any update on the 2,000 POI limit for Honda's navigation system - is it per category or total for the system? Since Honda's navigation typically lags well behind Garmin, I'd like to be able to load up some chain restaurants I often visit when travelling in addition to the red light and speed cams. The 2,000 limit is so aggravating because 2,000 can't take up that much space on the system. Heck, the red light and speed cams aren't even 1 MB in a csv!

I have most every thing I want on my Honda except for the Rest Areas. I took the speed cameras and only put Texas on it as that is the only place we basically drive as we fly if going any further. I am going to get the Texas Rest Areas if there is one, if not I will do as I did the speed cameras and pull the Texas out of the US one.
Doesn't look like I will be near the 2000 mark for a while.
Have not messed with it for a while as I was sidetracked with Garmin Viago.
I do need to get back to the Rest Areas.
If I ever get to 2000 I will let you know.

The thing for me is that I periodically travel in many states and while I could pull out individual files for one state and import them into my Honda, I'd really like to find a way that I could exceed the 2000 limit so that I can have entries for other states up and down the east coast as well. Furthermore, because the Honda POIs are typically a few years out of date, it would be really great to also import fast food locations, etc. which would exceed the 2000 limit instantly. I just still don't get the dumb 2000 limitation when the actual text entries can't take up much memory at all on the system. It's just a few lines of text. Odd. I'd love to know how this is done.

Also, I wonder if someone could upload a sample template file for the benefit of others to use.

CSV format with Honday Navigation

if you opened your CSV document with wordPad.
The format should look like this

X,Y,NAME
-##.######,##.######,Destination Name1
-##.######,##.######,Destination Name2

Just be sure that there is no space before or after the comma.

I have success with it. Enjoy.

KML

This is what my KML files look like when I pull them up in WordPad

EDIT:::
I can't get it posted here.... Must be something in my post not allowed.

No download POI

2015 Honda CVR Touring.
Followed directions to 'more search methods'.
No option for downloading POI's.
USB drive was in prior to powering up the car.
Drive is FAT32 with all files (kml) in subject oriented directories.
Hacked about and could not find an option to upload POI's in either the NAV menus or the main setting menu for navigation.

I want to load my red light and speed camera files, using both the built in navigation and my Garmin seems foolish.

i agree

Why did you opt for the built-in if you knew the odds of being able to customize it would be slim?

The usb ports are where you plug your cable in

I plug in my USB cable and attach my USB drive to the cable.
Your 2 USB ports will work.

I have an Accord and these directions are for the Accord. I do not have a CRV so I do not know where on your menu the Download POI is. Have you found anywhere on your menu that said Download POI?

This is the link to the FAQ for KML files:

CRV

I just read the manual and can not find any mention of Downloading POIs.
If anyone had a CRV and has found the option please post.
Thanks.

No I can not find any menu

No I can not find any menu for downloading POI on the 2015 CRV. The only options I can find are for Map Updates and USB status.

On the Accord

nickzel12 wrote:

On the Accord their is a Download POI on the Menu and also one on the Settings.
I haven't used them for a while but I think the one on the Menu is the one to use to download your personal POIs from a USB drive. I am surprised if Honda took that option off. It may be to make room for something else because when I was reading the manual I saw that you can save 5 routes to use again. I do not have the option to save a route on the Accord. When I program a route in at night for a place we plan on going the next day I have to program the route select begin then I turn the key off. The next time we start the car it ask if we want to continue the route. It would be so nice to just save the routes to use whenever and not have to put them in just before we need them.

The save route may be a trade off for downloading POIs.

go to the dealer

nickzel12 wrote:

Go back to the dealer and ask if it is possible with the system Honda installed in your vehicle. There's an excellent possibility it can't be done because Honda doesn't want to be sued for something you added.

Go into all of your menu and setting links

nickzel12 wrote:

Follow each option in menu and in setting.
If you don't see download POI then it looks like it is not offered on your unit.

In the index of my manual of the 2014 Accord under Enter destination there is a section called Download POI.

I look at a copy of the 2015 CRV nav system manual online and I can not find anything that said "Download POI".

It looks like you may not be able to download the POIs. BUT it never hurts to call your dealer or email Honda and ask.

Do I need to delete current RLC and SC files before updating?

Or ... do I rename them the same to overwrite them?

Mary - Are you still here?

Thanks,
Rick

I am still here

I haven't changed my files lately, but if I remember correctly you name the file the same and it asked if you want to overwrites your previous file.

Be sure you have your file named the same as your old file and very important be sure and have another file on the drive with a different name. If you only have one file on the USB drive it will be loaded named favorite and you will have two files with different names and the same information taking up your limited files.

Let me know if this doesn't work and I will go and try to load another of the same file.

USB Not Supported Error

I have a 2016 Acura MDX and every time I insert the USB (3.0) it gives me an error message that it is unsupported and the "Import for USB" is greyed out....I have reformatted the USB a number of times as FAT32 and attempted with .csv and .kml

uSB 3?

What kind of drive is it? A USB 3 external hard drive? Try a USB 2 thumb drive.

dobs108 smile

I did have to try several

I did have to try several USB drives before I had one that worked.
The one that works on the 2014 Accord is a 2.0 SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4GB with U3 smart on the back

Found a chart:
White - 1
Black - 2
Blue - 3

See what color your car is and maybe that will help.
