None of the custom alert sound or bmp work when i loaded them on my nuvi 660. Proximity Alerts enable run POI Loader in "Manual" mode to establish the distance at which you wish the alert to occur i tried wav and mp3 files and i still get the default bong
and i'll lay odds you have double extensions
It's either that or the file names don't match.
Read the FAQs on how to load POI. The poi file, BMP and alert sound all have to have the same name except the extension and they have to be in the folder POI Loader reads.

Do you have it in the POI Loader folder?

Settings > Proximity Points > Alerts .. custom POI >CHECK
Even though you have stated that you have checked and do not have double extensions, please do this
(For Windows 7 use
Click on Start
Find and click on Control Panel
Click on System and Security
in the left panel, click on System and Security
In the right panel, click on Folder Options,
Click on the View Tab
make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
In Windows 2000 or Windows XP open My Computer
Click Tools
Click Folder Options
Click View tab
Uncheck the box that says Hide file extensions for known file types.
Or
In Windows XP click on Start
Click Control Panel
Click Folder Options
Click View
Uncheck Hide extensions for known file type.
AFTER YOU HAVE DONE THE ABOVE,
go look at the folder on your PC containing the POI files you are trying to load and see if there are double extensions.
I apologize for doubting you but we would like for you to report to us that you have followed these steps - so that we can look at other possible things that might go wrong.
My understanding is that your unit will play .mp3 files, so sox.exe is not an issue although it need to be a particular version of sox.exe and be in the same folder in :\Program Files\Garmin\POI Loader as the program POI Loader.exe)
I would suggest a small scale test. Go look at this FAQ,
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/36195
follow its instructions, and create a POI file that is easy to test.
Put the resulting test file in a separate folder on your computer (one entirely separate from any other POI files - so you might call it "My Test POIs"). Run POI Loader in manual mode and point it to this new single folder to update your nuvi with a new .gpi file.
Go check this test file just to make sure the alert dong worked. Then, get any "alert" .mp3 file and copy it into the "My Test POIs" folder.
Let's say that you called the POI file "Test Point One". In the folder "My Test POIs", you would want to have
Test Point One.csv
Test Point One.mp3
Do another run of POI Loader, point it to the same folder and let it replace the .gpi file with a new one.
Go do another test and you should get the audio alert.
Did all of the above also
Did all of the above also check for double double extensions still getting that bonk...this is how i copy tredlight folder to POI loader...
RedLight is name of folder and below what i have in the folder
Redlight-Cameras.bmp
Redlight-Cameras
Redlight-Cameras.wav
@ krellmk
Try naming the folder one of these: GATSO, mobile, SPECS, safety, speed or camera and see if that helps any.
(It should also be Redlight-Cameras.csv)

Which goes back to my first answer. You had double extensions on the file names. It's the most frequent reason new users (or loaders) can't get their files to work.

If you went actually thru the exercise of unchecking the line "Hide extensions for known file types" then you would have seen the double extensions. Please make that change to Folder Options.
OK
OK
.
That's why we advise to triple check the extensions. It's almost always the culprit.
same here
Krell I posted on one of the forum a messages similar to yours, instead getting the custom alert I only get the same Bong sound ,but I only have this problem on the Rest Area location. I have try many different things but none it seems to work, someone suggest for me to install a program called SOX, one thing I can not figure out is, I do not have no problem when it come to Speed Camera and Red light camera they all come out with the proper voice sound alert, why someone could make those Rest area already set to give you voice alert?

What is the name of the alert sound file you have for the Rest Areas? MP3 sounds do not work on any of the 4 digit models. You can't name an MP3 WAV, it has to be converted from MP3 format to WAV format by one of the many converters available. I happen to use AUDACITY from audacity.sourceforge.net
